Location : Children's Wisconsin, main campus with possible travel 1-2 times per year to the NE Appleton Clinic and/or NB Clinic. What you will do: The Clinician functions with demonstrated expertise in the delivery of direct nursing care to children and their families. The clinician, with advanced knowledge and skill, also provides nursing care to children within a defined patient population. As a recognized resource for consultation to the pediatric nurse, the clinician assists in establishing and maintaining a quality standard of nursing care for patients with enteral feeding devices and securement methods. Clinical Practice: Demonstrates knowledge of the neonatal, infant, toddler, pre-school, school-age, adolescent and/or adult patient in regards to their growth and development process. Assists in the development and validation of nursing care standards (that align with TJC) across the continuum of care for patients with enteral feeding devices and other enteral feeding tubes as well as nasal bridles Provides and documents direct nursing care in the electronic health record for patients with enteral feeding devices when interventions are required. Applies the nursing process when consulting with other nurses or when providing care to patients. Acts as a patient/family advocate for patients with enteral feeding devices. Contributes to the identification of nursing diagnosis, interventions, and expected outcomes specific to patients with enteral feeding devices. Collaborates with inpatient case management in the discharge planning/home care coordination for patients/families with enteral feeding devices. Assures responsibility for cost containment measures through the support of ongoing activities to evaluate the cost of care for patients with enteral feeding devices. Communicates and collaborates with all members of the health care team. Acts as a clinical resource to nurses, providers and other health care professionals regarding the care of patients with enteral feeding devices and other enteral feeding tubes and nasal bridles. Education Collaborates with the nurse to identify and support the learning needs of patients/families with enteral feeding devices. This includes but is not limited to: patients considering placement of devices, patients with periosteal skin concerns that require advanced interventions and patients with complex teaching needs. Assists in the identification of staff educational needs in the care for the patient with enteral feeding devices and other enteral feeding tubes and nasal bridles. Collaborates with clinical leaders, providers and educational staff to develop and evaluate education programming to meet the needs of staff. Works with an Advanced Practice Nurses and/or Education Specialists to develop staff and patient/family educational materials. Presents quality, research and outcome data to peers, staff and faculty supporting the growth and expansion of the enteral feeding program Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to bring knowledge of the enteral feeding team throughout the organization and to community outreach sites Evidence-Based Practice/ Quality/Research Participates in and supports quality monitoring and improvement. Assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of unit/clinic operations, patient care policies, procedures, products, and programs related to patients with enteral feeding devices and other enteral feeding tubes. Identifies and participates in potential topics for clinical evaluation and/or research related to patients with enteral feeding devices. Assists in data collection and analytics for metrics associated with the enteral feeding team. Participates in activities that support the programmatic growth of the enteral feeding team. Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Broad based knowledge of nursing practices normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree in Nursing. Must possess current State License as a Registered Nurse. Current CPR certification - Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through American Heart or American Red Cross is required. Approximately three to four years pediatric nursing experience, in order to develop a comprehensive understanding of patient care for patients with enteral feeding devices and other enteral feeding tubes and nasal bridles, and gain knowledge and skill in pediatric nursing procedures and standards. Analytical skills necessary to resolve complex patient problems, develop standards of care and procedures, and evaluate the quality of nursing care. An understanding of CHW health care delivery system and the impact of other health care delivery systems on the patient and family. Mental and sensory abilities to read, process and interpret clinical data. Interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to interact effectively with interdisciplinary health team members, other CHW departments, and consumers. Ability to rotate shifts and/or work flexible hours to meet patient care needs. Must be able to walk, stand for long periods, over 80% of the assigned work period, as well as lift and position patients weighing up to 75 pounds. Willing to commute to community outreach sites 4-5 times annually for patient care or credentialing processes and education of staff, peers and faculty.
