Physician (Internal Medicine-Oncology) SITE OF SERVICE: Buffalo VA Medical Center, 3495 Bailey Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14215-1129 Full Time POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS: Education: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.). Accreditation: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges: Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Internship/Residency: Successful completion of residency program through one of the following: The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education The Committee on Postdoctoral Training of the American Osteopathic Association. Cardiac Certifications : Must have the following hands-on certification through the American Heart Association Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) License: Current license to practice medicine in any state, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia). Experience: Board eligible/board certified and Fellowship training U.S. Citizenship : Shall be a U.S. citizen. English Language Requirement: Shall be able to read, write, speak and understand English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers. Physical Capability: Shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required under the contract . DUTIES: Provide expert consultation and treatment to patients in the outpatient Hematology/Oncology clinic; as well as provide feedback and consultation with the other services within the Buffalo VA Medical Center. The Physician will evaluate, triage, and prioritize requests from Primary Care providers and others for outpatient hematology/oncology subspecialty consultations. They will obtain medical histories, conduct physical examinations, order and evaluate appropriate laboratory testing, and plan and prescribe treatment for patients. The Hematologist/Oncologist will coordinate medical management and care with Primary Care providers and other medical personnel in a multidisciplinary health care delivery system. The Hematologist/Oncologist will perform administrative tasks as assigned, such as peer reviews and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE). Provide Hematology/Oncology on-call services as assigned. HOURS: Monday-Friday: 8:00am-4:30pm On-call: TBD SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Teamwork skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
