ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: The Met's Department of Education-dedicated to making art meaningful and accessible for everyone- is central to the mission of the Museum. The Department is a national and international leader in museum-based education and public programming, pushing boundaries through continuous innovation and experimentation. In-person and virtual programs include fellowships, high school and college internships that promote career development and inclusivity; Pre-K-12 educator programs that train teachers to integrate art science and music into curricula across disciplines; programs such as community festivals; artmaking; performances and concerts; lectures convenings that feature preeminent artists and scholarship; daily tours in multiple languages, and so much more. GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of the world's finest museums, seeks an Educator in Charge, Academic and Research Programs. In a typical year, the Metropolitan Museum of Art hosts over 100 local, national, and international fellows, interns, and visiting scholars and practitioners, who become an enduring part of The Met's world-class, vibrant academic community of curators, scientists, educators, technicians, and other experts. It is critical that we engage with both local and global contexts in new, exciting ways. This next chapter for the Education Department is guided by The Met's overall Vision 2025.You are a skilled and experienced leader who will serve as a key programmatic partner to the Chair of Education, stakeholders across the Museum, and with local and global communities of scholars, practitioners, and other experts. You will oversee Academic and Research programs and initiatives, developing inclusive and accessible onsite, offsite and hybrid programs that promote cross-disciplinary learning and cross-cultural understanding. You will be charged with implementing the expansion and enhancement of the Academic and Research programs to further establish The Met as a world class authority on art learning, research, and scholarship that is multidisciplinary, equitable, and inclusive. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: Work with the Chair of Education to develop and implement the Academic and Research Programs' strategic vision and goals in alignment with the mission, vision, and goals of the Education Department and the Museum.Strengthen the existing programs, including over 50 fellowships awarded to scholars from around the world, undergraduate and graduate internships hosted by over 40 Museum departments, and academics/research programs such as "Research Out Loud".Oversee the development and implementation of robust processes and procedures that guide the work of the Grants Committee, a cross-museum body that awards funding for over 50 senior and junior fellowships in art history and visual culture, conservation, scientific research, and interdisciplinary studies, museum staff research sabbatical program and employee research-based travel related to their work at the Museum.With the Chair of Education and other museum stakeholders, oversee the development and implementation of a thoughtful Met Alumni program, engaging over 1500 alumni through, but not limited to, marketing and communication campaigns, regular communication, annual meetings, and fundraising in collaboration with Development.Lead a growing team, including hiring, onboarding, providing guidance, setting priorities, assigning work, coaching, and performance management. Foster professional development and growth for staff.Foster collaboration, cohesion, and community across Academic and Research programs; and provide direction, guidance, feedback, and support across the museum's various academic and research programs to strategically manage resources and align with changing needs and emerging opportunities.Establish evaluation systems and metrics to assess programs' content, format, and audiences on an ongoing and regular basis and propose improvements for the existing programsBuild authentic, collaborative relationships with Education colleagues and partner departments across the Museum. Continuously seek opportunities to strengthen collaborative approaches to program creation and execution and strengthen relationships across Digital, Education, Marketing, Publications and Editorial, Libraries, and Live Arts (DEMPILL) and across The Met at large.Play a key role in developing and implementing robust and sustainable outreach and engagement to local and global community of students and researchers; conceive, develop, and cultivate collaborations and partnerships with local, national, and global communities to form sustainable relationships that promote accessible, equitable, and inclusive experiences for all audiences; establish and grow partnerships with key local, national and international organizations and/or leaders to expand audiences, develop collaborations and interdisciplinary approachesPrepare annual budgets for Academic and Research Programs, working with Education and Finance staff; oversee ongoing financial operations and reporting, ensuring that the organization operates within budget and fiscal guidelines and policies.Serve as an Education senior leadership team member, provide strategic input for cross-departmental engagement and decision-making, and build strong collaborative relationships with peers.Cultivate opportunities for monitoring the latest developments in the field, including attending conferences and maintaining and growing networks with education and museum professionals.Other duties as assigned REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS: M.A. in Art History, Education, or other related field, or equivalent experience required7+ years of combined programmatic and/or education experience in a museum and/or academic setting, including the support of research and academic programs 5+ years of experience and demonstrated success leading a team and managing staffTrack record of developing and managing a complex schedule of inclusive educational and public programs related to research and academic student success, that serve a broad and diverse audiencesExperience in developing education/academic/training programs with an international/global scope is a plusExperience designing and implementing evaluation tools and in qualitative and quantitative outcome measurementDiplomacy, emotional intelligence, and sensitivity when handling challenging issues while communicating, building rapport, and relating well to othersStrong project management, planning, and organizing skills; ability to identify, assign and oversee multiple resources, tasks, systems, and people to establish courses of action that achieve the desired results Financial acumen and familiarity with fundraisingComputer and media skills, including proficiency in the Microsoft Office Compensation Range: Pay Range: $140,000 - $155,000The advertised pay scale reflects the good faith minimum and maximum salary range for this role.
