Posting Period: April 03, 2024 - Until Filled Employee Type: NEASO NEA Staff Organization Position Type: Regular Salary Range: $94,380.00 - $148,378.00 Rank: NEASO Rank 7 Position Details: Job Description Summary: Partnering with NEA affiliates, members, leaders, and other stakeholders, the successful candidate for this position will promote healthy, safe, and equitable learning conditions for students and working conditions for educators by imparting school health knowledge and skills and achieving related practical, advocacy, and policy wins. The successful candidate will serve as the NEA Health and Safety Program's lead on programs, policies, and partnerships that promote safe and healthy PreK-12 schools, colleges, and universities by addressing topics that include infectious disease, vaccination policy, mental health supports and initiatives, social media, chronic illness, and the health- and education-related effects of hazards like lead and mold.. POSITION EMPHASIS: This position supports NEA's strategic objective of promoting safe, healthy, inclusive, collaborative, and future-focused public schools. POSITION SUMMARY: Based in the Health and Safety Program within NEA's Education Policy and Implementation Center (EPIC), the successful candidate will serve as the NEA Health and Safety Program's lead on programs, policies, and partnerships that promote safe and healthy PreK-12 schools, colleges, and universities by addressing topics that include infectious disease, vaccination policy, mental health supports and initiatives, social media, chronic illness, and the health- and education-related effects of hazards like lead and mold. The successful candidate will work as part of a staff team that also addresses environmental and occupational health and safety and preventing and responding to violence against students and educators. The successful candidate will identify and drive opportunities to provide programmatic and strategic support to state and local Association affiliates and within NEA Headquarters; develop and deliver trainings and presentations for national, state, and local Association members, leaders, and staff; produce and revise publications, testimony, letters, and other written materials; represent the Association before governmental agencies and with non-governmental organizations; advocate for strong policy and regulation; build partnerships with nongovernmental and professional organizations; and conduct other work as assigned. The successful candidate will report to the EPIC senior program manager for health and safety. To carry out responsibilities, the successful candidate will travel frequently and use a computer and/or laptop, associated software, and other office technology. MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Advanced degree in a health-related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills may be acquired. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: In addition to the essential criteria listed below, at least five years of progressively more responsible professional experience applicable to school health, preferably in a PreK-12 school, college, or university. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Sample work products (i.e., publications, presentations, trainings, educational program documentation, etc.) that demonstrate content expertise, technical skills, and writing ability will be required in advance of any interview. Finalists for the job will be asked to complete a writing exercise. The successful candidate must be able to occasionally work extended hours on evenings and weekends and must be able to travel frequently (21-45 overnights per year). Successful reference checks will be required. SELECTION CRITERIA: TIER 1 (Essential): Proven skills in: Promotion of healthy schools; writing educational and policy-related materials; development and delivery of trainings and presentations; effective participation as a team member in internal and external collaborative activities; effective communication, consultation, facilitation, priority-setting, follow-up, and advocacy to achieve work-related goals; independent planning, leadership, and completion of individual and team projects; and appropriate handling of sensitive information and data and adherence to confidentiality requirements. Successful reference checks will be required. TIER 2 (Significant): Experience working for or with a labor union and in a PK-12 school, school district, or institution of higher education. Knowledge of effective adult learning principles, online learning, and virtual engagement platforms and strategies. TIER 3 (Desirable): Knowledge of NEA's strategic priorities and NEA affiliates.Individuals who are hired for certain positions may request approval for telework, in accordance with the policies and guidelines for the staff unit to which the position is assigned.
