Operating with scale and speed, our exceptional software engineers are just getting started -- and as a manager, you guide the way.With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.Chrome OS is Google's operating system, providing simple, secure, speedy, stateless, and shared computing for a scalable ecosystem of devices from desktops to laptops to tablets. The ChromeOS Firmware team writes firmware to make Chrome OS devices the fastest-booting, most secure, most reliable laptop/desktops/tablets ever. The team touches every Chromebook that goes out.Chrome OS delivers quality computing at scale to provide universal and unfettered access to information, entertainment, and tools. Our mission is to empower anyone to create and access information freely through fast, secure, simple, and intelligent computing. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $189,000-$284,000 bonus equity benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process. Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree, or equivalent practical experience. 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C , Java, JavaScript).4 years of experience with firmware or embedded devices. 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role; overseeing projects, with 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role. Preferred qualifications: Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field. 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.Experience developing in coreboot, Zephyr OS, or other open-source projects.Experience bringing up USB-C stack, sensors, and other peripherals. Experience building consumer electronics and knowledge of manufacturing, supply chain, and customer support processes. Experience with Linux development environment and git/gerrit tools, and knowledge of x86/ARM assembly. Responsibilities Set and communicate team priorities that support the broader organization's goals. Align strategy, processes, and decision-making across teams. Manage a team of engineers, and set clear expectations with individuals based on their level and role. Meet regularly to discuss performance and development, and provide feedback and coaching. Develop the mid-term technical vision and roadmap within the scope of your team(s). Evolve the roadmap to meet anticipated future requirements and infrastructure needs. Participate in board bring-ups and work with partners to deliver new Chrome OS devices. Evaluate and help improve firmware code and processes for scalability and maintainability. Work with a larger team of engineers and product managers to design and develop firmware features.
