Job Overview The Senior, Fabric, utilizes their fabric knowledge, strategic thinking, and collaborative skills to deliver cost-effective elevated fabrics to Macy's Private Brands Materials team. This role partners with Design and Product Development to source and develop core and seasonal fabric palettes, focusing on price, aesthetics, and quality. It requires a strong development and technical background, a high taste level in various fabric types, and an understanding of garment application. The Senior, Fabric is responsible for fabric from initial concept through bulk delivery, including researching, sourcing, allocating, and developing fabric based on seasonal design concepts, trends, and requests. They report to the Senior Fabric Manager to support partners within Private Brands, collaborating with Design, Product Development, Sustainability, and PIQA. Effective work within the Materials Team ensures a thoughtful approach to developing new and elevated fabrics, building a fabric library, and establishing a preferred supplier matrix. What You Will Do Drive the end-to-end fabric development process across multiple seasons to enhance innovation, productivity, efficiency, quality, and profitability while ensuring commercial viability. Lead the sourcing and development of core and seasonal materials for multiple brands within the fabric team, encompassing knits, wovens, and sweaters. Requires strong technical proficiency in textiles and a solid understanding of the global source base. Translate design concepts into commercialized materials at the appropriate price point. Work within a cost framework that satisfies internal stakeholder needs while maximizing cost of goods savings. Support the Raw Material Sourcing Strategy to mitigate risk, improve efficiencies, and optimize materials and suppliers. Collaborate with fabric suppliers and garment vendors to deliver innovative fabrics and provide technical assistance. Create fabric boards, core toolboxes, and maintain seasonal development libraries for collaboration. Also, maintain a seasonal fabric tracking tool. Assess current fabrics and identify areas for improvement to align with brand product roadmaps from allocation and cost perspectives. Clarify quality, performance attributes, and usage expectations to cross-functional teams through thorough review of fabric specs and testing requirements. Utilize established relationships in a global source base to source and develop fabric worldwide. Understand cost components to support negotiation efforts. Attend material exhibitions to research trends and explore potential new suppliers. Operations & Results: Collaborate with Product Development to ensure quality execution and assist in cost negotiations to achieve margin goals. Establish and maintain a Fabric library with new collections and development reference cards. Proficiently utilize PLM, Microsoft Suite, and Design tools such as Canva and Adobe XD. Skillfully manage PLM data entry, create material records and seasonal libraries, and ensure accurate and transparent data input. Optimize core fabric utilization within and across brands to maximize savings and minimize overdevelopment. Adhere to seasonal milestone dates. Maintain accurate information and toolsets, including physical library, PLM, mill matrix, and other fabric team tools. Relationship Management: Effectively communicate and follow up with internal and external partners globally, including internal stakeholders, material suppliers, and garment vendors. Coordinate supplier meetings for seasonal development and trend research, ensuring fabrics are presented with associated costs. Support PD and Design through proto and bulk development to maintain alignment on cost and quality. Change Management : Implement process improvements effectively, managing change and identifying risks while influencing teams to adopt new standards and practices or develop contingency plans. Problem-Solving Initiative : Demonstrate problem-solving skills and initiative in emerging or ambiguous situations, engaging team members as necessary to maintain progress. Continuous Improvement Mindset : Cultivate a mindset of curiosity and drive to address complex issues and seek resolution, developing tools to measure KPIs and interpreting, analyzing, and acting upon them to drive continual improvement. Independence and Creativity : Work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating a creative approach to problem-solving and the ability to untangle difficult tasks. Collaborative Communication : Highly collaborative individual with exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of working across numerous internal and external teams and levels. Attention to Detail : Strong attention to detail and a flexible approach to handling complex tasks. Proficiency in Tools and Software : Exceptional proficiency in PLM and Microsoft Suite, with experience in complex data analysis and data integrity management. Knowledge of tools such as Power BI and Smartsheets is advantageous.
