We are looking for a Systems Engineer IV to help lead our team responsible for building, managing, maintaining and scaling operational infrastructure on which our mission-critical services are deployed or depend. We seek individuals with a sense of purpose and for whom detail and craftsmanship are of their essence; individuals that are curious, demonstrate initiative, and love solving problems.Responsibilities: Oversee technical designs for software solutions that combine Open Source components, COTS (commercial off the shelf) components, and custom developed components Installation, configuration and maintenance of production, QA and development environments in which Verisign applications are deployed; environments include servers, operating systems, OpenStack, and automation tools Development of deployment automation tools including Ansible Development of enabling infrastructure using Terraform Documentation of processes, procedures and configurations Coordination with other technical staff to implement systems and software Performance of occasional operations support functions, including problem isolation and resolution Documentation of processes, procedures, configurations, and deployment plans Provide critical technical leadership in the areas of operational process and change management, and mentor less experienced engineers Regularly reporting progress to management Participate in a 24x7 on call rotation Our ideal candidate will have a unique blend of impeccable technical skills and a desire to work as part of a team to grow themselves and those around them.The team deploys engineers and operates enabling infrastructure in support of mission critical customer applications.The candidate must have: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience 8+ years of experience developing and operating mission-critical systems Excellent understanding of Linux configuration and administration Strong automation experience.Not just developing automation, but knowing why we automate and what to automate Strong understanding of infrastructure-as-code Strong written and verbal communication skills - able to clearly and succinctly describe complex issues Familiarity with networking protocols and systems Desired Skills, Experience, and Attributes: Experience with authentication systems such as: RedHat Identity Manager and/or FreeIPA Kerberos Active Directory Experience with ServiceNow Experience with a high level scripting language such as Python Experience with RedHat Enterprise Linux Registry Services, E-commerce or ISP environment experience Enterprise Application Integration experience Deployment automation experience using tools such as Ansible Experience working with teams using Kanban and/or Scrum Experience with Docker or Kubernetes in a production environment Experience with OpenStack in a production environment Experience administrating Unix systems in a large scale environment Experience with Hashicorp Consul and Vault Experience with GitHub Enterprise Experience with Guardicore Experience performing log analysis in Splunk This position is based in our Reston, VA office and offers a flexible, hybrid work schedule. The pay range is $132,500 - $179,300.The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is noted above, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience. Verisign offers a discretionary bonus which is based on individual and company performance, and certain roles may be eligible for discretionary stock awards.
