Position: Social Studies Instructional Guide Location: 18251 Homestead Trail, Commerce City, CO 80022 Wage: $54,600 - $74,515 Employment type: Exempt About us: The STEAD School is… ● A community of people who consider themselves stewards of their environment. You will be part of an educational movement and community that tackles education with meaning, purposeful work, interconnectedness, and heads, hearts, and hands. ● A public, independent, 5 day-per-week charter school located in Reunion, serving a diverse demographic of students from all corners of the urban, sub-urban, rural communities of Northeastern Denver Metro, Brighton, Commerce City and greater Adams County. The STEAD School opened in 2021 with our first cohort of Founding Guides and Founding 9th grade students. We are growing next year to add our fourth-year Founding Guides and a new class of 9th grade students as our current 9th, 10th and 11th years rise into their 10th, 11th and 12th grade studies. ● A problem-driven, project-based curricular model committed to a personalized learning philosophy where every student will reach proficiency. ● A marriage between Science, Technology, Environment, Agriculture, and Design within a well-rounded, expansive and enriching family of creative, physical, artistic, musical, literary, and athletic pursuits. ● A team committed to building a community that is diverse and inclusive of all humans. Small on “schooling,” BIG on “learning.” Essential Functions: Plans, develops, and delivers an engaging, age-appropriate course of study in the classroom, adhering to The STEAD School’s best practices, state and school district curriculum guidelines. Designs and delivers individual lesson plans in various social studies subjects, such as world history, U.S. history, geography, civics, economics, and other related disciplines using a variety of teaching techniques and appealing to various learning styles. Connect social studies concepts to real-world events and issues, helping students understand the relevance and importance of what they are learning Prepares materials for lessons, assignments, and tests; evaluates, corrects, and grades student performance. Plan, organize and execute field trips and accelerator week curriculum and events. Meet expectations of department leads curriculum guidance Comply with IEP and 504 accommodations Discusses academic difficulties or behavioral problems with students as they arise and escalates as necessary to the appropriate individuals. Monitors students progress throughout the year and evaluates preparedness for graduation, vocational school, or college, as appropriate. Administers standardized tests in accordance with district and state laws and policies as directed by school administration. Communicates progress and concerns with tact and professionalism to parents and, as appropriate, other faculty, staff, and/or principal. Builds and maintains positive relationships with parents, staff and students. Enforces safety and security standards for students, staff, and visitors. Adhere to and understand all policies and procedures in the STEAD employee handbook and Minga Handbook. Follow all field trip and accelerator protocols Maintains required paperwork for individual student files, attendance and incident reports, and other necessary records. Monitors campus with other faculty and staff before and after school, during class and passing periods, and during lunch as assigned by the principal. Participates in faculty meetings, educational conferences, in-service opportunities, workshops, and other training seminars. Maintains knowledge of research, developments, and best practices in secondary education. Including but not limited to project based learning and student led learning environments. Performs related tasks such as sponsoring student activities or organizations. Participate in all Exhibition nights, Student Led-Conferences and recruitment events as directed by the principal Performs other related duties as assigned. Education: Bachelor's degree is required State accreditation and licensing preferred Masters degree highly preferred Ongoing maintenance of all requirements regarding professional courses and in-services required. Experience: Prior teaching experience is highly preferred. Specialized training in teaching secondary school-aged children is preferred. Skills: Maintain positivity and professionalism Thorough understanding of the pedagogy and best practices of education. Desire to teach secondary (high) school-aged children and ability to adapt to their developmental status. The ability to design lessons that teach curriculum in an engaging manner, applying various teaching methods such as the flipped classroom, lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and individual or collaborative projects and research. Strong supervisory and leadership skills to manage the classroom. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills with the proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Creative analytical and problem-solving skills.
