Description:

This position is responsible for the coordination of health care services for patients of the CDD Autism Center. This includes being the first point of contact for patients and families, directing them for scheduling of needed services, helping to coordinate their visit to our multi-disciplinary clinic and ensure timely transitions between specialized care provider appointments. This position may also provide social work services to patients and families. In addition, this position may help families connect with the Research Coordinator on the day of appointment. * Consult with triage team members and referring physicians prior to patient visit to ensure appropriate clinic placement. * Responsible for the management of documentation required prior to the visit in addition to providing families with instructions detailing any additional information collected on the day of appointment (such as parent report measures). * Coordinate patient flow and research involvement during clinic visit with a multidisciplinary team, including a developmental-behavioral pediatrician or child psychiatrist, a psychologist and/or speech-language pathologist, an audiologist, a social worker, an occupational therapist and research coordinator. * Coordinate with Social Work in assisting patients with applying for entitlement benefits and accessing community resources. * Attend meetings involving Office of Patient Experience and respond to patient feedback. * Collaborate with Autism Center Directors and Medical Director in resolving any patient concerns. * Responsible for responding to patient calls and inquiries regarding our services. * Provide patient families information regarding patient resources. * Assists in presenting professional and lay trainings on autism. * Attend and participate in training, meetings, conferences, and workshops for the Autism Center. * Represent and promote the services of the Center for Disabilities and Development (CDD) and related program. * Communicate with patient family to discuss expectations and preparations for patient visit. * Work within a multidisciplinary team of physicians, psychologists, therapists, social workers, and researchers in assessment of the patients or family needs. * Ability to answer simple questions from family members and patients related to research protocols. * Communicate with Research Coordinator to monitor patient visit and help to support retention of participants. * Communicate with patient families prior to visit to manage expectations. * Ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and civil manner while appreciating the unique contribution of individuals from varied cultures, race, creed, color national origin, age, sex, disability, sexual orientation and gender identity. * Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public. * Ability to utilize existing resources and learning to achieve or exceed desired outcomes of current and future organizational goals/needs. * Able to demonstrate ethical behavior in diverse situations while producing results. * Ability to effectively transmit and interpret information through appropriate communication with internal and external customers. * May assist Behavioral Health Clinical Manager in hiring decisions including participation in interviews, onboarding and training of new staff. * Collaborate with Family Navigator and may provide some functional supervision of that position under the direction of the Behavioral Health Clinical Manager. Pay Level: 5AProfessional and Scientific Pay Structures | University Human Resources - The University of Iowa (uiowa.edu)Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Social Work or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. * Licensure or Certification in related specialty area. * 3 years of experience in patient care and/or coordination of care. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Demonstrated attention to detail and a high level of organizational skills. * Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products. Desired Qualifications: * Master's degree in social work or equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience in the conduct of social work practice. * Valid Iowa Social Work Licensure (LISW). * Experience with clinical research. * Experience and training in working with patients and families affected by autism.
