School Nurse Starting School Year 2024-2025 Position Summary: The Foote School seeks a licensed Registered Nurse to serve the health
and wellness needs of the school community. The School Nurse is called upon to manage existing student health needs as well as to provide first aid and preventive health services to students, addressing both physical and emotional health concerns as they arise during the school day and during our after-school program. Initiating and promoting school-wide health initiatives is an important part of these positions and may involve some classroom teaching. The ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with students, parents, and all members of the school community is critical to the position, as is the ability to exercise thoughtful professional judgment and handle emergencies in a calm and professional manner. This role reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer.The School Nurse role requires managing highly confidential information, superior administrative and organization skills, and comfort with problem-solving under pressure. This position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills and flexibility to balance day-to-day priorities with longer-term goals and projects.The Foote School is deeply committed to diversity, inclusive curriculum, and community. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Staff the Health Office Treat children and young adolescents with developmentally appropriate and kind care Handle medical emergencies calmly and efficiently Keep accurate records of all visits and dispensed medication Communicate proactively with parents and faculty about injuries and illnesses Collaborate with school administration to monitor daily attendance and follow up with parents of students who are out sick Initiate and promote school-wide health initiatives
 Develop, maintain, and update school health, wellness, and safety policies with the school administration; ensure that all policies and procedures are adhered to
 Act as a resource to the school community on health-related issues and education
 Work with teachers and parents of children regarding specific acute or chronic health needs such as allergies (food-based, environmental, and/or medicine-based) or other conditions that may require medication or other interventions during the school day Execute hearing and vision screening as well as lice checks Run flu vaccine program for faculty and staff Perform random drug testing of faculty and staff members authorized to drive students Participates in all staff meetings and professional development days Participates in committees, including the Safety Committee, Health Team, and Crisis Team Other duties as assigned Records and Inventory Maintain and manage student health records, including the tracking of medical records and vaccination histories in Magnus Health and ensuring compliance with national and local health laws Monitor expiration dates for student medications stored in the Health Office as well as corresponding medication authorization forms and care plans Organize and pack student medications for all off-campus field trips and sports Keep inventory of health-related equipment and supplies, including AEDs, and replace/restock and inspect when necessary Minimum Requirements: 
 Connecticut Licensed Registered Nurse Current certification in CPR and AED from a recognized provider At least one year of nursing experience, including responding to emergencies and managing medication, is preferred Experience using technology including Google Suite and Magnus Health preferred Experience working with children aged 5 – 15 is preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to assess situations and act quickly Ability to work independently and with others Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills A clear interest in being part of a community that seeks to challenge prejudice
and is committed to diversity and inclusion Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a full-time, 10-month, salaried exempt position. The school year hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., with summers and school holidays off.
