The Assistant Director of Prospect Research is responsible for supporting fundraising and relationship building efforts by providing pertinent information to frontline fundraising staff and Institutional Advancement about donors and prospective donors. The core responsibility of the position is to gather and analyze publicly available data about Emerson constituents including: biographical information, professional connections, philanthropic interests and activity, and wealth and compensation information with the goal of supporting fundraising. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES Analyze and summarize available information on Emerson's constituents for use by frontline staff and college leadership Support the Director of Prospect Management and Research and fundraisers with potential additions to new and established major gift portfolios through proactive research of public and College sources, as well as through electronic screening and statistical modeling Establish, audit and update philanthropic capacity ratings Prepare research profiles on constituents as requested, in long and short form Present relevant research during prospect strategy meetings Prepare research documents to support special events attended by the President and key volunteers Track Emerson alumni in the media for updates on employment and personal life milestones to maintain in Emerson's CRM database Keep abreast of research and fundraising trends and seek out compensation information and trends for key industries of our alumni communities Ensure all pertinent data discovered through research is properly recorded in the College's CRM database QUALIFICATIONS - Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to effectively perform job. Bachelor's degree required Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in prospect research, library or Internet-based research or comparable experience required Experience in report writing, pulling complex data sets, and queries required Experience in higher education a plus preferred KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with the job. Demonstrated proficiency using computers, Internet and computer systems and computer-based research tools Strong analytical and communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and effectively, using style and grammar appropriate for target audiences Able to present research to end users in strategic meetings Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others Demonstrated resourcefulness in finding and distributing useful and appropriate information while maintaining confidentiality and a respectful orientation toward the research subjects is necessary. Must display a high level of judgment and respect for confidentiality Competent working with Microsoft Office, including Excel preferred Familiarity with advancement constituent databases (specifically Blackbaud's Raisers Edge), Lexis/Nexis, and other on-line research tools preferred Thorough familiarity with fundraising terminology and complex fundraising databases preferred Ability to both generate computer-based and written reports preferred PHYSICAL ABILITIES - Activities commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
