Description: Expected Starting Salary Range: $28.15 - 35.98 SUBFUNCTION DEFINITION: Seeks support from generous individuals, families, and institutions to enable CCHMC to improve funding to expand and update facilities, to carry out important research and to improve treatment options for sick children. Prospect Development and Prospect Research is the strategic arm of an organization's fundraising operation, focusing on prospect pools and pipelines. Prospect Development professionals collaborate with gift officers and development leaders to ensure fundraising efforts are focused on working with the right donors. CAREER LEVEL SUMMARY: Prospect Development and Prospect Research is the strategic arm of an organization's fundraising operation, focusing on prospect pools and pipelines. Prospect Development professionals collaborate with gift officers and development leaders to ensure fundraising efforts are focused on working with the right donors. REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES *Leadership Backup for team leadership, serving as decision maker in absence of manager. Serves as mentor/trainer for new staff. Demonstrates proficiency at pulling reports. Documents processes and updates guidelines. Serves as team representative for departmental initiatives. Involved in preparation for and execution of campaign planning, including development of systems for prospect identification and verification and for construction of campaign donor pyramids for specific projects. *Project Management Supports high priority projects identified by leaders of the institution, creating a plan of action and overseeing research efforts to completion. *Policies & Practices Develops, maintains, regularly reviews, and updates prospect management and development policies and procedures. Trains fundraisers on prospect management and development policy and practice. *Prospect Managemen tCreates, refines, and manages an efficient and effective data-driven prospect management system, developing solutions in cooperative fashion with fundraising leaders. Establishes and monitors a moves management system based upon targeted research that drives mutually agreed upon cultivation and solicitation strategies for donors and prospects. Actively participates in monthly and quarterly prospect strategy sessions. Partners with colleagues in prospect research to manage the assignment of newly-qualified prospects based on workflows. Collaborates on the building and scheduling of reports to be used in prospect management. Builds strong partnerships with gift officers and prospect development colleagues in developing strategic recommendations and approaches for prospects at various points of the donor cycle; Works independently as lead prospect management advisor for gift officers; Monitors and supports the health, balance, and movement of individual gift officers' portfolios as well as the overall pipeline. *Prospect Research Identifies potential individual, corporate, and foundation prospects from a variety of sources to ensure team has sufficient prospects to meet fundraising goals. Employs a wide variety of internal and external prospecting methods, including: sophisticated constituent database queries; list segmentation; data mining; and electronic screening analysis. Selects potential prospect names for assignment after conducting research and rating. Adds high capacity/high interest prospects to database for cultivation. Notifies assigned managers of important updates to donor files. Responds to inquiries from gift officers, leadership and other CCHMC staff to determine prospects' financial assets, potential for philanthropic support, areas of interest and medical center affiliations; Meets with assigned development teams/gift officers regularly to disseminate information, acquire understanding of the goals and needs of each team/gift officer, and develop identification and research strategies to meet the goals. Performs extensive research in online subscription databases such as: LexisNexis for Development Professionals, iWave PRO, WealthEngine, Foundation Search, etc.Exercises understanding of wealth indicators with the ability to collect, analyze, interpret and summarize complex financial disclosure documents on individuals, corporations and foundations, such as: property records; IRS 990 forms; SEC documents; IPOs, stock sales and expiration; private company ownership valuation; and company mergers and acquisitions. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of domestic and international business environments and corporate management structures. Undertakes international research projects, including country and economic profiles, adjusting for differences in language, naming conventions, customs and currency. Applies generally accepted prospect research methodologies and formulas for estimating gift capacity.Qualifications: EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Required: * Bachelor degree in related field*2 years of work experience in a related job discipline Preferred: Experience with relational databases, preferably Raiser's Edge. Proficient use of MS Office Unique Skills: Understanding of the development cycle and the role of prospect development within the cycle. Proficiency in Apra's Body of Knowledge Relationship Management and Prospect Research domains. Project management skills with proficiency in negotiating requests, prioritizing work, managing time, and taking ownership of outcomes. Interpersonal skills, including diplomacy, influence, and persuasion. Ability to develop strategic partnerships with all levels and types of staff. Ability to adapt communication styles and vehicles to various audiences and purposes, conveying key information in a clear and concise manner. Ability to deal with highly sensitive information, maintain confidentiality, and exercise a high degree of judgment and discretion. Ability to apply themes from ethics statements by Apra and other related associations.
