Department -CSL SCS: Medical Providers About the Department -The Student Counseling Service (SCS) is a part of the Student Wellness and Counseling Services organization within Campus and Student Life. SCS provides mental health care to students and their dependents who have paid the Student Life Fee. Mental health services include diagnostic assessments; crisis assessment and intervention; individual, couples, and/or group psychotherapy; medication management; academic skills counseling; and referral services. SCS staff provides consultation to University of Chicago faculty, staff, and administrators, and outreach/education to the campus community. In its care for students, SCS employs a multidisciplinary team of mental health clinicians, supports a psychology training program, and serves as a training rotation site for psychiatry residents. Job Summary -Provides routine and emergent psychiatric care to University of Chicago students and consults with Student Wellness (SW) staff in accordance with privileges approved by the credentials committee, to include identification and management of mental health problems.Responsibilities Conducts comprehensive psychiatric evaluations; prescribes psychiatric medications as indicated; orders and interprets laboratory studies as indicated; provides psychiatric follow-up care. Maintains accurate and timely documentation for all clinical interactions and consultations. Participates in emergency psychiatry call rotation. Provides formal and informal consultation to SW clinical staff and trainees. Attends and participates in multi-disciplinary treatment team and psychiatry staff meetings. Provides campus-based services and consultation to internal and external constituents, which may necessitate being on campus some evenings and/or weekend hours. Participates in SW peer review and quality improvement activities. Serves on SW committees as assigned. Collaborates with other health professionals to provide comprehensive primary care for the entire population of University students. Recommends medication for students with complex health problems using best practices within primary care. Uses specialized medical knowledge and expertise to perform physical exams. Places orders for diagnostic testing. Interprets health issues and determines evidence-based diagnoses and methods of management. Assesses the need for and recommends medication appropriate medications. Performs other related work as needed. Minimum Qualifications -Education:Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.--- Work Experience:Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 7+ years of work experience in a related job discipline.--- Certifications:---Preferred QualificationsEducation: Doctoral degree in medicine. Accredited residency in psychiatry completed before start date. Board certified or board-eligible in psychiatry before start date. Medical license in Illinois within six months of start date.Experience: Experience in a university counseling center or with young adults treating mood, anxiety, and adjustment disorders, and providing couple counseling and crisis management.Preferred Competencies Ability to interview and obtain medical information. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with prescribing and monitoring psychotropic medications. Comprehensive knowledge of laws and ethical principles related to the practice of psychiatry in a university setting. Once licensed and as required, will apply for a controlled substance license and DEA number. Willingness to be privileged and credentialed through UCM Medical Staff Office prior to start date. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently required. Strong organizational skills. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical skills. Demonstrated experience working with a wide array of presenting problems and an affinity for working in a multidisciplinary team.Working Conditions Direct patient contact or clinical care setting. Office environment. On-call responsibilities. Ability to sit for up to 2 hours at a time. Ability to use computers extensively for up to 2 hours at a time.
