Classification Full-time employment; exempt from overtime Reports to Vice President Summary The director of education provides thought leadership on education policy; manages projects related to local, state, and national education policy issues; supervises and mentors staff; provides strategic counsel to staff and clients; facilitates meetings; creates reports and other client deliverables; and cultivates relationships with education policy stakeholders to generate project sales. Essential Duties Uses expertise in early childhood, K–12, and postsecondary education policy to provide leadership in education policy Interprets and comments on complex policy issues, advancing PSC’s position as a policy thought leader Cultivates and maintains relationships with education policy leaders to stay abreast of key issues and policy topics and identify opportunities for PSC to contribute to advancing smart public policy Manages multiple projects concurrently, including communicating with clients and partners, overseeing the scope of work, and collaborating with team members to ensure high-quality projects that are completed on time and on budget Mentors staff through modeling PSC values, championing the firm’s policies and processes, providing guidance in handling client and colleague relational matters, and delivering constructive feedback Serves as a strategic advisor to staff, including guiding the development of scopes of work, reviewing client deliverables and sales proposals, and providing relevant information to offer potential solutions Designs meeting processes and facilitates stakeholder discussions to advance education policy topics Ensures services are delivered with consideration to the proper allocation of resources, profitability, high-quality output, and a high level of client satisfaction Develops and maintains an understanding of work undertaken across the firm to communicate what PSC does from a broad lens to external audiences Expectations of All PSCers Collaborates and communicates well with staff and clients in a fast-paced environment with diverse people and projects, fostering a supportive, creative working environment for all PSC colleagues Demonstrates initiative, critical thinking, and sound judgment to generate ideas, work approaches, presentation of information, and issue resolution Manages workload effectively while engaged in multiple projects concurrently with high accuracy and attention to detail, seeking clarification when appropriate Adheres to PSC’s quality assurance processes Seeks areas of personal growth and identifies steps toward success, including mentorship, ongoing learning, and professional development opportunities Is occasionally available beyond regular work hours as necessary to respond to staff and firm needs Core Competencies Technical Expertise Possesses subject matter expertise in early childhood, K–12, and postsecondary education policy; is intellectually curious and uses education policy interests and expertise to generate new project prospects Business Acumen Can anticipate challenges across the education policy landscape; is knowledgeable in current and future policies, trends, and information associated with education policy trends; can synthesize complex information for a variety of audiences; is adept at making decisions in a timely manner, sometimes with incomplete information Communication Can communicate complex education policy topics to broad audiences; possesses strong presentation skills, is able to facilitate discussions among diverse stakeholders Project Management Can organize people and activities, understands how to develop work into efficient workflow, anticipates opportunities for synergy and integration in project execution, demonstrates broad knowledge and perspective, utilizes project resources in an efficient and effective manner to keep projects on task and budget Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and ten years of relevant work experience; a master’s degree in education or relevant discipline is preferred Experience working on public policy topics with diverse stakeholders Experience managing and mentoring others Compensation and Benefits Salary range: $109,136 – 155, 262 Eligibility for company profit share Competitive medical, dental, life, disability, voluntary vision, and voluntary legal insurance plans Company 401(k) contribution Paid time off granted upon start date Nine paid holidays per year and three paid personal days per year Paid parking Powered by JazzHR
