Job Function Laboratory Technicians are responsible for the testing, evaluation, and compilation of test data for member samples. They can follow defined test plans and data sheets. Capable of operating and maintaining test equipment used in testing members samples. Communicates with members during setup and testing to ensure proper evaluation of samples. Provides feedback to laboratory management and engineering staff regarding laboratory procedures and testing issues. May initiate recommendations for new equipment designs and recommends solutions to issues observed during testing. Trains other staff in specific test methods. May evaluate test results and report opinions and interpretations. Job Responsibilities Responsible for the preparation of test samples and performance of equipment. Builds and/or adapts setup and test equipment for performance of tests. Examines test samples and reads blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, measuring instruments, and operational instructions. Follows test plans and data sheets. Evaluates test performance and sample operation to properly evaluate test results. Records and explains test results and completes test report. Examines member samples and learns to conduct appropriate tests for each case with necessary supervision/support. Communicates with members during setup and operation to ensure proper evaluation. Operates designated machines and test equipment. Performs routine maintenance of test equipment and laboratory area. May perform basic calibration of test equipment Reads and understands test standards and can apply to area of responsibility with necessary supervision/support. Initiates recommendations for new equipment designs and recommends solutions to observed test problems. Receives instructions from and reports data to laboratory management. May communicate with members during test setups to discuss test methods and/or test results. Records observed or calculated data on appropriate forms and prepares data sheets and test reports. Capable of evaluating test results, and may report opinions and interpretations, as directed. Responsible for shipping and receiving members samples. Integrates basic continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job. Communicates with management to provide suggestions for new equipment, processes, and forms to improve accuracy and efficiencies. Education and Experience Higher Secondary Education plus three years related experience preferred Effective communication skills and ability to interact with members Desire to work in a team-oriented environment Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office and other programs as required Ability to incorporate automation into day-to-day testing Work Environment and Physical Demands The work environment is typical of an industrial laboratory or warehouse. The job may be physically demanding at times, with extended periods of standing. You must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. There may be elevated noise levels at times. You will be required to operate a forklift, powered pallet jack or scissor lift. This position, and all others at AMCA International may be modified at any time.
