Undergraduate Education manages the Undergraduate and Mason Core Curriculum, Academic Advising, Fellowships, University Studies Program, and the Mason Impact initiatives including Civic Engagement.About the University Studies ProgramMission - University Studies facilitates the holistic development of undergraduate students through academics, career exploration, self-discovery, and meaningful community engagement as they transition to, through, and beyond Mason. Our First Year Transition courses connect new Mason students to faculty/staff, to one another and to campus resources for a successful transition to college. These courses help students develop essential skills for academic success, personal development, well-being, and career exploration. Through these courses, we aim to lay the foundation for an engaged community of Mason learners throughout the undergraduate experience. About the Position:The Training and Recruitment Specialist will be an integral member of the University Studies team and report to the Associate Director of University Studies. The specialist will work with other members of the Undergraduate Education team, and, to a lesser extent, with other campus partners, to recruit and train faculty and peer advisors for the University Studies unit. The position requires running on-campus after-hours meetings for peer advisors about once a month and attending other after-hours events on an as-needed basis.Responsibilities:This position will be responsible for: * Recruiting, supporting and training the First Year Transition course faculty; * Recruiting and training peer advisors for and overseeing the First Year Transition Peer Advisor Program; * Supervising graduate assistant(s) who support First Year Transition Peer Advisors; * Developing curriculum for and teaching University 330 Peer Advisor Leadership training course (usually in the spring); * Managing and running the Peer Advisor retreat (typically in late March/early April - might be an overnight trip); * Serving on and leading appropriate University committees; and * Completing other tasks assigned by the supervisor, primarily relating to help with promoting the First Year Transition courses during orientation. Required Qualifications:The incumbent will need to be able to work in a team environment, understand the vision of first year transition programs and peer learning, and be able to take independent responsibility for supporting student leaders. The ideal candidate will have: * A Master's degree in any discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; * Experience with and knowledge of educational programming; student leadership development; and/or faculty training; * Demonstrated written, oral, and interpersonal skills; * Demonstrated ability to take initiative, problem solve, and prioritize multiple tasks; * Demonstrated skills of professionalism, flexibility, organization, and curiosity; * Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; and * Ability and willingness to learn data and learning management systems used at Mason such as Knack, Canvas, etc. Preferred Qualifications: * Knowledge of Mason's systems; * 2-5 years of progressively responsible experience working with student success or academic programs (i.e., first-year experience programs, academic advising, peer leader development, etc.); and * Experience organizing and delivering training seminars and workshops.
