The Department of Corrections, Division of Health and Rehabilitation Services (HARS), is recruiting for a Mental Health Clinician 3 (Deputy Chief Mental Health Officer), based in Anchorage, Alaska. Job Description ***The Department of Corrections is currently offering a hire incentive bonus of up to $15,000.00. The incentive bonus will be paid in two equal installments, minus mandatory deductions. The first installment will be paid 90 calendar days after the first day of employment, and upon demonstrating an overall mid-acceptable performance rating. The second and final installment will be paid upon the employee's successful completion of the probationary period. Payments will be due within sixty (60) calendar days of such request. To receive an incentive, employees are expected to agree to a three-year term of employment with the Department of Corrections.*** Watch Alaska DOC HARS video here: https://vimeo.com/789872805/e68dd6b1e3 What you will be doing: In collaboration with and under the supervision of the Chief Mental Health Officer, this position will: Supervise and support the DOC mental health staff located around the state, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring and evaluating employees. Oversee continued quality improvement for behavioral health treatment programs and day-to-day care for mentally ill inmates in DOC institutions. Collaborate with program managers on sex offender and substance use disorder treatment services. Develop, evaluate, and revise inmate behavioral health policies and procedures. Assist in monitoring for contractual compliance with outside agencies or individual health professionals. Atwood building located in downtown Anchorage. This position will work closely with a team of program managers and other departmental staff in an office setting. Onsite visits to correctional facilities may be required as needed. This position typically works Monday through Friday 8-4:30pm for a total of 40 hours a week, with some flexibility needed depending on critical circumstances that may arise. Who we are looking for: We are looking for an employee with the following desired strengths: Master's degree from an accredited university in counseling, psychology, social work or closely related field. Experience working with chronically mentally ill adults. Experience supervising staff and oversight of clinical programming. Ability to work closely and collaboratively with medical and security staff. Self-motivated and ability to work independently. Minimum Qualifications Doctoral degree OR Master's degree from an accredited college in counseling, psychology, social work, child guidance, vocational rehabilitation, or a closely related field.ANDAny combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities in Accountability: Accepts responsibility for own actions and decisions and demonstrates commitment to accomplish work in an ethical, efficient, and cost-effective manner. Psychology: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and theories of human behavior and performance in various contexts, mental processes, or the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders. Therapy and Counseling: Knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of physical and mental ailments, and career guidance. Equivalent to those typically gained by:Progressively responsible professional experience performing psychotherapeutic casework. "Progressively responsible" means indicating growth and/or advancement in complexity, difficulty, or level of responsibility. "Professional experience" means work that is creative, analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the profession's principles, concepts, theories, and practices; and is performed with the power or right to decide or act according to one's own judgment. "Training" and "education" in this guidance are synonyms for the process of acquiring knowledge and skills through instruction. It includes instruction through formal and informal methods (such as classroom, on-line, self-study, and on-the-job), from accredited and unaccredited sources, and long-duration (such as a post-secondary degree) and short-duration (such as a seminar) programs. "Typically gained by" means the prevalent, usual method of gaining the competencies expected for entry into the job. Special Note: Some positions require the incumbent be licensed as a Clinical Social Worker or a Licensed Professional Counselor. This requirement will be addressed in the job posting.
