Exercise Physiologist at the Institute of Respiratory Medicine / Exercise PhysiologyThe Lundquist Institute for Biomedical Innovation at Harbor-UCLA Medical CenterThis is an opportunity for an outstanding exercise physiologist to contribute to funded research projects in Respiratory Medicine and Exercise Physiology. Successful candidates will join a very active research team, that includes physicians, academic researchers, physiologists, nurses, study coordinators, trainees and students. The primary duties are to perform cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET), pulmonary function testing, and other tests of physical function in healthy individuals and patients with heart, lung or other chronic diseases. The research center supports an active CPET core laboratory for central reading and reporting of CPET data for clinical trials. The successful candidate will be expected to become an active member of the CPET core laboratory. Other duties will include record keeping, data analysis of physiologic tests, generation of reports, laboratory maintenance, working with study investigators and study sponsors, and working with study coordinators and research participants.The opportunity occurs in the context of the activities in the Institute of Respiratory Medicine and Exercise Physiology (https://respiratoryresearch.org) within the Lundquist Institute for Biomedical Innovation at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center (TLI). TLI is one of the country's leading non-profit biomedical research institutes, located on the campus of Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles County. The appointee will work with TLI investigators, including Carrie Ferguson PhD, William Stringer MD, Richard Casaburi PhD MD, Tom DeCato MD and Harry Rossiter PhD. The group is world-recognized for research in physiological mechanisms of exercise limitation in health and disease, and its research is published in the highest-ranked journals in field. The ideal candidate should be highly motivated with a background in respiratory medicine or exercise physiology. Experience in the following is desirable: pulmonary function testing; cardiopulmonary exercise testing or cardiac stress testing; other strength or aerobic exercise testing; cardiac or pulmonary rehabilitation; electrocardiogram testing; blood pressure measurement at rest and exercise; phlebotomy; clinical trials or physiology research. Remuneration will be commensurate with experience.The position is available from January 2nd, 2024. Required Skills & Qualifications: Bachelors or Masters degree (BS, MS or equivalent) in physiology or kinesiology or similar Education or experience in physiologic assessment of human participants Description of Duties: Conduct pulmonary function tests, cardiopulmonary exercise tests, ECG, blood pressure, muscle strength tests and other test or physiologic and physical function in human research study participants Data analysis and reporting of above testing modalities Troubleshooting equipment and maintaining consistent operation of laboratory services Occasionally perform study coordinator duties, as needed. Contribute to ongoing clinical research in the Institute of Respiratory Medicine and Exercise Physiology Salary: $65,000-$90,000/yr.
