San Bernardino County is recruiting for a Museum Curator of History , who is responsible for collecting, recording, promoting, and interpreting the history of the County. The Museum Curator of History will supervise the branch museums related to historic preservation, including displays, tours, research, and publications. The Museum Curator of History is responsible for receiving, classifying, preserving, analyzing, and cataloging of artifacts, gifts, and bequests. This position will also facilitate and assist in the development of educational programming and exhibits, train volunteers and seasonal workers, and assist in grant proposals and records. *Official Title: Museum Curator. For more details, refer to the Museum Curator job description. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT The San Bernardino County Museum is located in Redlands, and was founded in 1952. The San Bernardino County Museum contains exhibits and collections in cultural history and natural history. As part of the museum experience, there are public programs available for adults, families, students, and children. The San Bernardino County Museum strives to develop visitors' appreciation of the diverse regional identity to spark curiosity, stimulate inquiry, challenge assumptions, and invite their contributions to the County of San Bernardino future. For more information, visit their website at museum.sbcounty.gov CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Pre-Employment Process: Prior to appointment, applicants must undergo a background check, which includes fingerprinting and a medical exam. Travel: Travel throughout the County is required. A valid California Class C driver license is required at time of appointment, and must be maintained throughout employment. Employees in this class may be required to use personal vehicles and show proof of automobile liability insurance. Mileage reimbursement is available. Work Schedule: Employees are required to work weekends and holidays. Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is unable to consider to candidates who require Visa Sponsorship at this time or in the future. Candidates must be able to present their legal right to work in the United States at the time of employment. Qualifications & RequirementsCandidate must BOTH the Education requirement and one (1) Experience option. EDUCATION: A completed Master's Degree from an accredited* college or university in History, Historic Preservation, Historic Architecture, Museum Studies, American History or comparable field. (Note: a major in Art History is not considered qualifying.) AND-- EXPERIENCE OPTION 1: One (1) year of historic curation experience, including collection management, interpretive programming, and supervision of professional, technical, or volunteer staff. EXPERIENCE OPTION 2: Two (2) years of professional experience with history as a researcher, lecturer, and/or preparing exhibits, including public interaction. *Qualifying degrees must be completed at a college or university accredited by an accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. In addition, degrees completed outside of the U.S. must be accompanied by an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service indicating equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at the college or university accredited by an accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education.
