POSITION SUMMARY Position Summary: One City Schools is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Elementary and Middle School Physical Education Teacher to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing Wisconsin standards-based curriculum, providing quality physical education instruction, and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle among students in various grade levels. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES Curriculum Development: Develop and maintain a comprehensive physical education curriculum aligned with Wisconsin State Standards, ensuring a well-rounded education in physical fitness, motor skills, and sportsmanship. Create and implement engaging health education lesson plans that meet state and national standards. Teach students about a variety of health topics, including but not limited to nutrition, physical activity, mental health, sexual health, and substance abuse prevention. Continuously update and adapt curriculum materials to reflect the latest trends and research in physical education. Instruction and Classroom Management: Create engaging and developmentally appropriate lesson plans that cater to various grade levels, taking into account the unique needs and abilities of each age group. Utilize effective teaching strategies and instructional methods to enhance students' physical skills, knowledge, and understanding of fitness and wellness. Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, teamwork, and sportsmanship among students. Implement discipline and behavior management strategies to maintain a safe and productive learning environment. Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess students' physical abilities and track their progress through formative and summative assessments. Use assessment data to tailor instruction and provide individualized support to students as needed. Communicate student progress to parents and colleagues through conferences and written reports. Physical Fitness and Health Promotion: Encourage and motivate students to engage in regular physical activity and adopt a healthy lifestyle. Organize and coordinate school-wide fitness events, clubs, or intramural sports programs to promote physical fitness beyond regular class time. Equipment and Facility Management: Ensure the proper maintenance, organization, and safety of physical education equipment and facilities. Collaborate with school administration to request and allocate resources needed to support the physical education program. Professional Development: Stay current with best practices in physical education by attending workshops, conferences, and participating in professional development opportunities. Collaborate with colleagues to share knowledge and best practices related to physical education instruction. Collaboration: Work closely with the other physical education teacher in developing curriculum, utilizing shared equipment, and showcasing scholar work. Work closely with other educators, specialists, and staff members to integrate physical education with other subjects and support holistic student development. ROLE SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in Physical Education or a related field (Master's degree preferred). Wisconsin teaching certification in Physical Education (PK-12) or eligibility for certification. Strong knowledge of Wisconsin State Standards for Physical Education. Previous experience working as a Physical Education teacher, preferably in an elementary and middle school setting. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to adapt instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. CPR and First Aid certification (preferred). Enthusiasm for promoting physical fitness and healthy lifestyles among students. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS Strong commitment to the mission, vision, goals and objectives of One City. Commitment to working with children from diverse racial/cultural populations and their families, experience preferred. Ability to regularly and routinely lift and push at least 50 pounds. Completion of a background check required. Be at least 18 years of age.
