The Assistant Carpentry Instructor is an experienced professional within the carpentry/construction community who harnesses the ability to teach students the basics on how to shape and prepare wood products for use. Key Responsibilities: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Effective teaching and training skills Patience and adaptability to different learning styles Attention to detail and accuracy Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills Installing wooden structures such as roofing frames, rafters, partitions, joists and stud work Designing and installing cabinets, shelving, fitted furniture, drywall and insulation Adding fixtures and fittings such as door handles, locks, hinges and closures Selecting lumber by size and strength to suit each job, sourcing wood to suit the customer's budget and style Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to fully grasp requirements Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of material needed Carve and assemble furniture, cabinets, shelves and other items and install them where designated Inspect places and conduct repairs or maintenance Build scaffolding and other construction structures Train carpentry students, ranging in all levels of experience Maintain a respectful relationship with employees, interns and persons served/clients Bring policy/personnel issues to supervision as they arise Maintain a valid driver's license Protect the privacy of all staff and persons served/client information in accordance with privacy policies, procedures and practices, as required by federal and state law, and in accordance with general principles of professionalism in a healthcare environment. Key Experience and Education Needed: Valid carpentry license, certification or successful completion of a carpentry apprenticeship program preferred. High school diploma or GED 5 to 10 years of Carpentry Experience Other Qualifications to be Considered: Proven experience as a carpenter or carpentry instructor Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings Proficient in using hand and power tools Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations related to carpentry Liaising with clients, suppliers and other construction professionals Excellent understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools (powered saws, hammers, rulers etc. ) Willingness to follow safety guidelines at all times Good knowledge of English Good understanding of basic math Good physical condition and endurance Ability to read detailed health records Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Ability to operate computer and other office equipment Must have sufficient mobility to competently perform all physical tasks listed above. Work occurs primarily in an on-site environment and may be indoors or outdoors. May sometimes involve heights, exposure to hot or cold weather, loud noises, dust and fumes.
