Announcement # 2023-018 Closing Date : Open Until Filled Salary : $7476-$9503 ( DDA I ), $9048-$11498 ( DDA II ) The DEPUTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY I or II position is full-time, 40 hours, Non-Civil Service, and FLSA exempt. The Columbia County District Attorney's Office represents the State of Oregon prosecuting all felony crimes as well as the vast majority of misdemeanors, including aggravated murder, child abuse, sex trafficking, drug crimes, domestic violence, DUIs and other traffic crimes. The DA's Office seek justice by fairly and impartially enforcing laws as well as advocating for victims' rights. By managing these activities, we help make Columbia County a safe and healthy place to live, work and do business. DUTIES : Represent the State of Oregon as a trial lawyer in the prosecution of criminal actions in Circuit and Justice Court proceedings and assist the District Attorney in performing all of the functions of the District Attorney, including, but not limited to, arraignments, release hearings, restitution hearings, plea/sentencing hearings, probation and revocation hearings, contempt, major traffic cases and jury trials on misdemeanor and selected felony cases. Must be available to provide on-call service to police agencies for advice and warrant review on nights and weekends. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE : Graduation from an accredited school of law. Two years of increasingly responsible legal experience ( DDA I ). Four years of increasingly responsible legal experience ( DDA II ). Work experience in the practice of law with preference given for prior experience as a Deputy District Attorney or similar position. Any satisfactory combination of experience and training that demonstrates the knowledge and abilities to perform the described duties. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS : Membership in good standing in the Oregon State Bar and admission to practice law in Oregon State Courts. KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY : Thorough knowledge of criminal laws and the practices and procedures of criminal prosecution. Thorough knowledge of courtroom and trial procedures ( DDA I ). Considerable knowledge of criminal laws and the practices and procedures of criminal prosecution. Considerable knowledge of courtroom and trial procedures ( DDA II ). Familiarity with the use of computers and general business and legal software. Ability to analyze facts, evidence and precedents and to arrive at logical conclusions. Ability to communicate effectively, both in written and verbal form. Ability to appear effectively before a trial court. Ability to interpret applicable federal, state and local laws, rules, regulations and policies. Ability to maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with employees, other agencies, County officials and the general public.
