Overview: The Software Test Engineering Manager empowers Software Test Engineer (STE) staff to be co-owners of the delivery responsibilities of a self-managed Scrum team. They contribute heavily to shaping standards and practices that guide team members in testing modern and adaptable software. They recruit and select top candidates and ensure they have the training and mentoring necessary to continuously improve. They inspire team members and maintain a positive culture. Job Details: Ensure Quality Releases - Ensure that each product release is free of defects and provides optimal value to end users Promote Quality Obsession - Support infrastructure, culture, organization, and strategy for implementing a quality first SDLC practice Promote Test Automation Practices - Teach staff to automate tests that ensure code behaves as designed Mentor Staff in Sound Test Practices - Understand, teach, or sponsor the software testing skills needed to support the testing of new features and ensuring the ongoing functionality of existing features Support Culture of Continuous Improvement - Support teams by helping them remove practices that do not serve their purpose and encourage teams to constantly reflect on how they are performing, what they can do to improve themselves, and how they can multiply the productivity of their teammates Identify Areas that Require Special Resources - Identify when upcoming projects will require outside expertise, special training, or research spikes so that teams have the resources necessary to successfully execute on company vision and product roadmap Enable Self-Organized Teams - Support team formation, address issues that teams cannot unblock, and make personnel changes where necessary Foster a culture of transparency - Protect team psychological safety, and empower individuals to call out problems when they see them Attract, Develop, and Retain Top Talent - Recruit Software Test Engineers and create an environment for them to excel in Requirements: Past experience in leadership 10+ years of industry experience 8+ years professional software testing experience Experience with Agile leadership Experience with coaching and mentoring individuals in their professional growth Experience with scripting language and automation experience Experience with test automation technologies and frameworks, such as Selenium Experience with CI/CD tools and automation techniques Experience developing test plans and test cases by analyzing requirements and design documents Experience with manual and automated software testing approaches Ability to prioritize projects and meet deadlines Skill in clearly communicating complex concepts verbally and in writing, and in translating technical details into understandable terms for less technical audiences Detail oriented Expert in software testing practices and strategies Experience with GIT and software version and change control methods Experience with Agile development techniques Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines Ability to successfully operate as part of a cross functional, collaborative team BS/BA in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience Desired Experience: Knowledge of insurance products and experience with insurance company operations, organization, procedures, and policies Drive to provide value and influence throughout SILAC Knowledge of C#, Python, Selenium, Docker, SSMS, GIT Experience with Docker containers At SILAC Insurance Company, our core values are not just a requirement, they are a standard by which we live by.
