Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Education Director, the Cultural Educator is responsible for passionately sharing the story of Pueblo People by refining and communicating information from IPCC exhibits to guests, school, and tour groups. Works to engage guests through educational opportunities aimed at critical thinking and with detailed knowledge of current exhibits, issues, and events that have impacted and impact Pueblo Communities as well as highlighting the Indigenous Wisdom Curriculum ; customer focus and command of information will be key to customer satisfaction. This list of duties and responsibilities is illustrative only of the tasks performed by this position and is not all-inclusive. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Supports the Cultural Education Specialists in the development, implementation, and coordination of exhibit education initiatives as well as the Indigenous Wisdom Curriculum to fulfill the institutions' mission, raise visibility, and engage with communities to promote dialog and foster understanding of Pueblo culture. Prepares and supports all facets of planning and delivering our programs to visiting student groups working to ensure group needs are established, executed, and follow up is completed after the visit via surveys or email . Assists in the planning of educational visits that meet each teacher's needs, appeal to multiple learning styles, and are within the allotted time fame for each visit. Works alongside Cultural Education Specialists to fulfill grant initiatives and programming. Works collaboratively with curatorial team throughout exhibit development to incorporate learning opportunities either within exhibit or through add-on programming. Supports the implementation of year-round cultural education programs geared to multiple audiences utilizing internally developed and externally sourced educational materials, IPCC collection, and information from library and archives. Works with internal team to carry out cultural initiatives by leading tours, educational programming, and internal training programs ensuring cultural sensitivity and values are accurately presented. Supports Cultural Education Specialists to train docents/volunteers on educational initiatives ensuring tours are consistent, accurate, and learning objectives are met. Maintains a positive and professional work environment through open communication and teamwork to accomplish initiatives. Other duties as required. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Education, Arts, Museum Studies, Native American Studies or related field or equivalent experience, plus one year experience in museum setting with focus on direct guest interaction on a paid or volunteer basis. Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation. Native American Preference will be given. Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications: Knowledge of Pueblo, history, traditions, cultural values, and contemporary life. Ability to create culturally sensitive educational materials that highlight Pueblo values, traditions, and cultural aspects of both historic and contemporary life. Exemplary public presentation skills with the intent of creating emotional and intellectual connections between the audience and mission of IPCC. Knowledge of customer service techniques and ability to respond to difficult inquiries while maintaining a positive demeanor. Ability to coordinate tasks, review projects, and provide feedback for growth and development. Must be self-motivated with strong organizational skills. Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments. Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials as well as use data to compile and prepare reports. Ability to work a flexible work schedule including evening and occasional weekends. Skill in computer use and programs such as PowerPoint, Excel, Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and Microsoft Teams. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee occasionally is required to sit; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
