Position Details Standard Schedule : 7:00 am until 3:30 pm Monday - Friday Mandatory overtime is dictated by production demands, therefore daily and/or weekly (weekend) overtime is required as needed Overview : The high energy CNC Machine Operator will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the CNC machine. Will set up, program, edit, operate, or tend computerized or manual woodworking machines, such as drill presses, lathes, shapers, routers, sanders, planers, or wood-nailing machines. This position requires a strong understanding of the machine, must be reliable and able to work with attention to detail and safety standards. This role ensures the interminable and efficient running of a smooth and efficient production workflow. In a fast-paced environment, this position is an integral part of the process. Being a team player is essential since all tasks require close collaboration with co-workers. Previous experience operating a CNC machine with wood required The goal is to ensure production procedures are carried out smoothly in accordance with quality standards and established safety procedures to maximize efficiency and profits. Duties and Responsibilities Reads, interprets and follows written/verbal work orders and/or interprets complex drawings; applies the knowledge to accurately setup and run programs reading blueprint; incorporates changes as necessary Cleaning of machines and work area before and after each shift Examines raw wood stock for defects; ensures conformity to size and other specification standards Sets up and starts machines (calibration, cleaning etc.) to start and maintain production cycle efficiently; ensures output of meets high-quality standards Monitors machine operation to ensure optimum running of specified cuts ; troubleshoot problems and minimize machine downtime; control and adjust settings to correct and ensure conformance to specifications as needed; make trial cuts to ensure machinery is operating properly Feeding and off-loading of wood pieces to/from machines Inspection of wood pieces for quality (smoothness, shape, angle, depth-of-cut, or conformity to specifications); verifying dimensions, visually and using hands, rulers, calipers, templates, or gauges; addresses any concerns/issues immediately Loading of wood pieces onto carts safely and in an organized manner Monitoring of quantity of materials; notify Team Lead when counts reach a minimum level Performs quality work checks to ensure machine is producing quality standards; spots machine-related mistakes or flaws; solves problems as detected Ensure efficient and safe operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance troubleshooting and repair equipment malfunctions Setup, install and maintain/adjust tolling (blades, cutterheads, boring-bits, or sanding-belts) Maintain records and activity logs Understands and adheres to strict health and safety guidelines as well as Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and Company policies Punctual and regular attendance; arrives on time and works hours required to meet production goals Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Computer literate with demonstrated math and blueprint reading ability Demonstrated experience using various measuring devices, including, but not limited to, tape measures, height gauges, and calipers with ability to convert between metric and US standard units of measure Above average mechanical aptitude ; ability to run machine in "Auto" mode (rather than manually) Physical stamina and strength to frequently lift heavy pieces, standing 8-10 hours a day Self-motivated with ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment using a results-driven approach Ability to respond quickly to sounds from machine Ability to follow instructions Detail oriented with ability to analyze situations and find solutions Strong communication (written and verbal) skills with ability to work well with others, demonstrating team player behavior Ability to tolerate working in a hot, fast paced environment Understanding of standards and regulations in order to safely and efficiently operate machinery and tools properly Adherence to health and safety regulations (e.g. constant use of PPE gear) Minimum Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must be atleast 18 years of age 2+ years CNC Machine Operator experience in a wood manufacturing environment recommended Technical Degree preferred (relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of) Aptitude for math, problem-solving, computers, and mechanics Apprenticeship or specialization is an asset, but not necessary Safety and OSHA training required Candidate must pass pre-employment background check and drug screen and be authorized to work in the US Working Conditions Listed below are key points regarding environmental demands and work environment of the job. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups employees of organization. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
