Summary of Position The Fisheries Biologist is engaged in all aspects of environmental related projects including but not limited to fisheries technical support to national forest Interdisciplinary Team (IDT), data surveys, project analysis and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation. The position would also be responsible for preparation of Biological Assessments/Evaluations, development of responses to comments/objections, field data collection, and technical report authorship. Work will be performed independently as well as with a team of natural resource specialists and scientists. Telework for this position is supported. Some travel to field sites in north central Idaho is required. Duties & Responsibilities Research material, publications, and available to determine probable impacts, possible alternatives, and necessary mitigation requirements for a variety of environmental regulatory documents such as environmental assessments, environmental impact statements, and other compliance documents. Collects, interprets, analyzes fisheries data and summarizes data for reports. Prepare and write scientific reports, resource sections of NEPA analyses, environmental documents and technical memorandums/reports including biological assessments/evaluations. Apply scientific expertise to interpret and present results of field and desktop studies. Interact professionally with members of forest IDT members. Coordinate and obtain data from other federal, state and local agencies. Participate in IDT meetings, training sessions and public meetings on environmental matters as needed. Familiarity with federal/state environmental regulations, especially those related to fisheries. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in biology, natural resources, wildlife biology, ecology or equivalent. Coursework in fisheries A working knowledge of the NEPA process, and environmental document preparation. Demonstrated ability to accurately analyze information, make sound decisions and meet deadlines. Demonstrated experience on environmental permitting projects. Minimum two years of relevant experience. Exceptional skill with Microsoft Office Suite. GIS experience to include ArcGIS or similar platforms. Exceptional communication skills. Superior organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently or as part of a team. Ability to successfully manage concurrent projects and demonstrate flexibility with shifting priorities and timelines. Positive, can-do approach to assignments and tasks. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated experience in assisting with fish and aquatic surveys. Knowledge of fisheries of the Pacific Northwest Region. Knowledge of the NEPA and Endangered Species Act. Knowledge of the National Forest Management Act as it relates to fisheries Demonstrated field work experience and use of the scientific method. Working Conditions Occasional travel to field locations in north central Idaho. Physical Requirements Ability to satisfactorily pass pre-employment and post-employment drug/alcohol tests and background check. Ability to travel and work in field locations, sometimes remote potentially challenging terrain. Ability to lift 20 lbs.
