Position Title: Supervisor Controls Date: May 5, 2022 Position Report To: Engineering Manager Replaces Position Description: 2/12/22 Functional Unit: Factories Company/Division: NPPC - Clinton FLSA Status: Exempt Non-Exempt Salaried Hourly Job Code: USNT2357 POSITION SUMMARY: Guide the activities of Controls Technical Specialists, Technicians and other support staff in the planning, scheduling, design, and execution capital and non-capital projects. Provide control system support for day-to-day manufacturing operations, troubleshoot electrical and controls-related issues; engage in control system software changes and upgrades; participate in capital project implementations; support plant and divisional initiatives to drive continuous improvement. Meets all Safety, Health, Quality and Environmental requirements when performing job duties. Promote safe behaviors in daily activities. Follow and ensure the team follows all safety and quality standards and policies. Participates in NCE initiatives through operational Reviews (SHO, DOR, Functional Reviews, etc.) and NCE Methodology. Work overtime and weekends as required. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Work safely at all times. Follow all safety policies and procedures. Attend safety, team and plant-wide meetings; attend safety and functional training, perform SafeStart observations. % OF TIME Coach, train, mentor and provide leadership to Controls Technical Specialists & Technicians for troubleshooting procedures and resolution to technical problems --Includes making sure work is completed properly, ensure group operates efficiently, evaluate priorities, project deadlines, and manpower to determine job assignments. Identify and develop controls systems solutions that comply with all standards and requirements at all levels of project development. .......................................................................................................... 12% Guide the activities of Controls Technical Specialists, Technicians and other support staff in the planning, scheduling, design, and execution non-capital projects. ............................................ 5% Electrical Design and Development--Includes specifying and ordering hardware, control panel layouts, conduit layouts, development of electrical bid specs, wiring diagram development, and the overall electrical design of control systems .................................................. 15% Ladder Logic Design and Development--Includes design, development, documenting, testing and installing of control system software upgrades. Install and troubleshoot plant floor computer software and hardware. ........................................................................................... 15% Screen Design and Development--Includes layout, design, development, variable assignment, documentation, testing and installation of operator screens to interface with the control system ................................................................................................................................ 5% Documentation--Includes hardware specifications, descriptions of operations, electrical bid specs, ladder logic descriptors, making disk backups of work ...................................................... 5% Standards--Includes following and development of new and enhancement to existing electrical, hardware, drawing, sanitation, installation, screen, and programming standards ............ 3% Check-out and Start-Up--Includes set-up and testing of hardware, the I/O wiring, the control logic, the operator interface screens, and the overall control system ................................... 5% Training--Includes the training of production employees on the operation of new and modified equipment and the training of maintenance employees on the operation, design, and troubleshooting of new and modified equipment. Assist maintenance with staff training and development. .......................................................................................................... 5% Troubleshooting and Support--Includes providing troubleshooting, problem solving, and training support for production and maintenance to minimize downtime and optimize plant efficiencies. Install and troubleshoot plant floor computer software and hardware. ................ 5% Project Management--Includes developing project scopes, developing estimates, planning, scheduling, organizing, prioritizing, and interfacing with others Develop PLC, HMI and SCADA solutions for plant operation adherent to corporate standards. Maintain computers (hardware and software) used for process control system interface. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Associates of Applied Science in a technical discipline, preferably electrical and 5+ years of experience with electrical troubleshooting, PLC logic troubleshooting and programming, technical data interpretation, hardware application specification. Experience: (Years/Type) PLC's, Operator Interface Terminals, motor control, variable frequency drives, industrial instrumentation, Computers, iFIX Dynamics, and other programming languages ( BASIC, C, ASSEMBLER, Visual Basic). Some leadership experience desirable. Skills: Electrical Power and Controls System Troubleshooting, Systems Integration, Hardware and Instrument Specification, Schematics, and P&ID layout, Safety and Q.A., Data logging, RSLogix, Modicon, GE Proficy iFix, Risk Assessments and S.I.S. Experience in industrial manufacturing facilities preferred. Other: Must be authorized to work in the United States. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBLITIES: Identify staffing needs, recruit and hire talent Administer budget and allocate spending Conduct performance evaluation reviews for direct reports Administer compensation for direct reports Recommend employment actions (i.e., promotions, terminations) Coach and train direct reports Administer flow and distribution of supplies and materials Act on associate problems and complaints Plan, prioritize and set work and work schedules for direct reports POSITION SCOPE: ( List number and types of positions reporting to the position and area of impact, i.e. factories, division, group, company-wide, etc.) Direct supervision of Control Technical Specialists I and II. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: (List decisions and actions for which the position receives direction.) FINANCIAL/STRATEGIC IMPACT: (Include data on budgets, sales, profit, assets, or other area of importance.) WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: (State types of contacts required both inside and outside the company. Describe type of supervision given and received.) Interact with vendors, contractors, production, maintenance, engineering and managers. Supervision: Report to Manager of Engineering. Supervise Controls Technical Specialists I and II. Supervise contractors installing systems and maintenance personnel in trouble shooting and installing equipment.
