The Department of Health and Human Performance at Nebraska Wesleyan University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Athletic Training position to begin August 2023. Nebraska Wesleyan, located in Lincoln, the capital city of Nebraska, is a nationally recognized liberal arts institution with approximately 1,800 students and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Final rank upon hire will be determined by the Provost commensurate with experience and education. Health and Human Performance Department Mission Statement: Our mission is to foster the development of students' understanding and application of theoretical and practical science in the areas of health sciences, pedagogy, and sport management. Athletic Training Program Mission Statement: The Athletic Training Program at Nebraska Wesleyan University prepares students for a career in Athletic Training by providing them the skills and knowledge to practice in a variety of settings while allowing opportunities for intellectual and personal growth within the framework of a liberal arts education. Responsibilities: We encourage candidates who are prepared to teach courses in Athletic Training and Human Health and Performance with an opportunity to take over duties as clinical education coordinator. Courses may include Health Assessment, Therapeutic Modalities, Therapeutic Rehabilitation, Research and Statistics, Advanced Emergency Care or courses assigned by the department chair. Courses taught, and administrative assignments will be based on expertise. The didactic education component will involve working directly with graduate athletic training students once the undergraduate program is phased out. Additional roles may be available based on candidates ' interests and expertise (clinical education coordinator, clinical duties, or course selection). The candidate will also assist in academic and career advisement of current undergraduate students and future graduate students and contribute to faculty governance. Required Qualifications: Terminal degree in Athletic Training (DAT) or related content area (PhD, EdD, DPT) from an accredited institution by August 2023 or near completion. Board of Certification (BOC) Certified Athletic Trainer. Ability to be licensed as an athletic trainer in the State of Nebraska. Current professional rescuer CPR/AED certifications. Clinical Experience as a practice athletic trainer. Other specialized credentials. Examples include: NCSA/CSCS, EMT, CPR/AED Instructor, etc. Demonstrated commitment to engaging, innovative, and evidence-informed teaching incorporating diverse instructional methods. Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research experiences. Have a teaching philosophy that incorporates diversity and inclusion. Have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication and problem-solving skills. Dynamic and team-oriented with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Strong commitment to student-centered active learning and student engagement activities. Demonstrated engagement in scholarly and/or professional development activities.
