Serving 320 students in preschool through grade 8, Marin Primary & Middle School's vibrant learning community is located in the town of Larkspur, just 4.5 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge. Taking advantage of both the beautiful outdoor environment of Marin County and the cultural offerings of metropolitan San Francisco, MP&MS asks its students to Be Connected, Be Curious, and Be Courageous . At Marin Primary & Middle School we make education meaningful, while encouraging pride in self, respect for others, and enthusiasm for learning. The middle-school math teacher is an experienced, passionate, and creative educator who inspires and engages students, fostering appropriate academic rigor alongside excitement and curiosity. The teacher is responsible for leading an inquiry-based, hands-on program in math for seventh and eighth grade students. Each grade level offers a foundational math class and a more rigorous math class; seventh graders will take either Pre-Algebra Foundations or Pre-Algebra, while eighth graders will take either Algebra Foundations or Algebra. The teacher also serves as an advisor for 12-14 students. Advisors are the primary liaison between school and home, and advocate for their advisees. They stay connected to all aspects of their advisees' school lives, connect with their teachers, and support them to meet academic, social, and emotional goals. Advisor teams meet weekly and collaboratively utilize curriculum to maintain a level of consistency across advisory groups. Teachers at MP&MS work as members of subject area and grade-level advisory teams, sharing the responsibility of creating a strong sense of community and planning a dynamic, cohesive curriculum. Teachers build meaningful bonds with students, maintain high academic standards, teach children to engage in respectful and kind behavior, and promote a love of learning. Duties and responsibilities: Provide for the safety and well-being of all students at all times; create a learning environment in which students grow in autonomy as they learn together. Serve as the math teacher for seventh and eighth grades, including leveled classes at both grades, and collaborate with math teachers at other grade levels to ensure programmatic continuity. Adapt the curriculum and activities to reach the range of individual learning styles, experiences, and abilities within each class. Build relationships with students to ensure that each feels understood, nurtured and challenged while supporting and respecting each child's emerging identity. Assess and document student progress in a systematic manner, including communicating progress and growth with families at conferences and on report cards. Create opportunities for children to understand and become increasingly responsible for the many communities in which they live within the wider world. Defend the dignity and worth of each member of the community and foster respect, understanding and acceptance of differences; always model appropriate and ethical behavior. Participate in the life of the middle school and the whole school through activities and responsibilities such as recess, lunch, assemblies, field trips, overnight outdoor education trips, electives, student performances, and school wide events. Participate actively in faculty, departmental, and grade-level advisory meetings and collaborate with colleagues on efforts to further program and student development. Pursue professional growth opportunities on an ongoing basis.
