OVERVIEWA Swim Instructor / Lifeguard works to ensure the daily care of every child attending the Newman Summerprograms by following all Newman guidelines and professional standards and helps to maintain a safe,interactive and engaging learning environment. Swim Instructor / Lifeguards should be able to lead activities,take direction, be a team player, flexible, and be willing to learn. This position reports to the Swim Supervisor.EXPECTATIONS• Actively participate in staff orientation, training and required meetings• Help with the setup of camp including moving supplies, equipment, and decorating• Learn and follow camp routines and protocols as outlined by a lead staff member• Be a positive role model, keeping children safe, active, and engaged• Work in a team of swim instructors to create a safe and fun experience for campers• Establish relationships with campers, proactively supporting them with their camp experience• Maintain healthy professional boundaries with your campers and staff• Follow the lead of the Swim Supervisor regarding camp logistics, camper behavior, and day to day operationso Actively engage in daily meetings with lead staff and coworkerso Immediately notify the swim supervisor of any major medical concerns/injuries with campers throughout the day• Provide quality, safe and motivating swim instruction based on class descriptions and feedback.• Teach from either the water or pool deck as determined by the swim supervisor. This will require motions including being in the pool, active play, climbing stairs, walking, squatting, or kneeling.o Support other swim instructors and lifeguards with pool supervision - this includes supervising campers on the pool deck, actively scanning the pool area• Help maintain pool area and report any damage/needs to the swim instructoro Establish and maintain safe parameters of use for the campers in your careo Ensure campers tidy and reset all spaces used for the next activity / dayo Maintain and manage swim equipment and supplies• Complete other camp duties as assigned by the camp directors including but not limited to:o Morning arrival and Afternoon dismissalo Lunch, snack, and recesso Assisting with non swim based camp activitieso Safe transition of children to and from activities across Newman's campusGiven the short nature of the assignment, camp staff are expected to be punctual and ready to work assignedshifts and attend all days for which they are hired, as well as any orientation and training days.ADDITIONAL NOTESSeasonal Temporary Position / HourlyWorkdays / Hours: Monday through Friday / 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.Additional hours on the last day of each session until 5:30 p.m. for facilities reset and to pack up camp suppliesand equipment.
