The College Preparatory School History .75 time Teaching Position Starting August 2023 The College Preparatory School, an independent high school in Oakland, California, seeks a three-quarter-time History teacher starting in Fall 2023. This position entails teaching three sections of about 16 students in each, and two preps. Candidates should be eager to embrace spirited intellectual challenges in a rewarding and collegial academic environment. They should love history and the craft of teaching in equal measure. A teaching credential is not required Experience in and/or enthusiasm for teaching across our core curriculum (described below) Passion for working with high school students Strong organizational and communication skills Patience, flexibility and a good sense of humor A strong interest in working in a multicultural community The College Prep history program is innovative and rigorous and includes three required year-long courses: Asian Worlds (in the 9 th grade), The Atlantic World (in the 10 th grade), and The U.S. and the World, taken in the 11th grade. History teachers work closely with one another, honing and reshaping the curriculum. Beyond required courses, the vast majority of our students choose to take one or more history electives during their senior year. These include Constitutional Law, Economics, 20th Century Black Culture and Society, and the History of Capitalism, just to name a few. Students use both texts and teacher-produced material in classes. The school's mission is to prepare students for productive, ethical lives in college and beyond by fostering a stimulating education within an atmosphere of consideration, trust, and mutual responsibility. College Prep students are engaged and motivated learners who help create a kind, intellectual, joyful, and equitable community. Faculty and staff thrive at College Prep when they engage in the rich opportunities of its many co-curricular programs. College Prep actively designs programming and curricula that seek to strengthen the school's ties to Oakland and to the greater Bay Area. Faculty at College Prep are compensated according to a step scale based on years of experience that ranges from $72,500 for teachers with no prior relevant experience to $143,700 for teachers with 44 years of prior experience.
