OVERVIEWA Camp Counselor works to ensure the daily care of every child attending the Newman Summer programs byfollowing all Newman guidelines and professional standards and helps to maintain a safe, interactive andengaging learning environment. Camp Counselors should be able to take direction, be a team player, flexible,and be willing to learn. This position reports to a lead camp counselor and / or age group head.EXPECTATIONS• Actively participate in staff orientation, training and required meetings• Help with the setup of camp including moving supplies, equipment, and decorating• Learn and follow camp routines and protocols as outlined by a lead staff member• Be a positive role model, keeping children safe, active, and engaged• Work in a team of camp counselors to create an amazing and fun experience for campers• Establish relationships with campers in your homeroom and assigned activities, proactively supporting them with their camp experience• Maintain healthy boundaries with your campers• Work with Lead Counselor regarding camp logistics, camper behavior, and day to day operationso Actively engage in daily meetings with lead staff and co-counselorso Immediately notify age group head of any major medical concerns/injuries with campers throughout the day• Actively monitor campers throughout the day always maintaining a safe play environment:o Assisting instructors with indoor and outdoor activity blocks and supporting campers in their learning. This may require motions including active play, climbing stairs, walking, squatting, or kneeling.o Supporting swim instructors and lifeguards with pool supervision - this includes supervisingcampers on the pool deck, actively scanning the pool area, locker room supervision• Maintain homeroom space and report any damage/needs to age group headso Establish and maintain safe parameters of use for the campers in your careo Ensure campers tidy and reset all spaces used for the next activity / dayo Maintain and manage homeroom equipment and supplies• Complete other camp duties as assigned by age group head or directors including but not limited to:o Morning arrival and Afternoon dismissalo Lunch, snack, and recesso Safe transition of children to and from activities across Newman's campusGiven the short nature of the assignment, camp staff are expected to be punctual and ready to work assignedshifts and attend all days for which they are hired, as well as any orientation and training days.ADDITIONAL NOTESSeasonal Temporary Position / HourlyJune through July 2023Workdays / Hours: Monday through Friday / 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.Additional hours on the last day of each session until 5:30 p.m. for facilities reset and to pack up camp suppliesand equipment.
