The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a full-time Animal Services Program Coordinator to assist with operations of our Animal Services department. The Animal Services Program Coordinator earns a competitive salary of $22.24 - $24.07/hour, based on qualifications. Additionally, the city pays all premiums for our employees' dental, long-term disability protection, and life insurance plus the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and their dependents. General Description Under the general supervision of the Animal Services Manager, performs a variety of duties necessary for the evaluation and marketing of animals for adoption, development of rescue contacts and transfer of animals to rescue organizations and to create and maintain an active volunteer program that will reduce the number of animals euthanized. Promotes humane care of animals through education and humane, pro-active animal service programs committed to prevent the suffering of animals and ending pet overpopulation while recognizing the value of animal rescue groups to help place companion animals into new homes. Provides support in Animal Services for the creation, coordination, organization, and publicity for animal services programming, outreach, and adoption events. Manage all aspects of Animal Service's comprehensive volunteer program, from recruiting, onboarding, engaging, and retaining volunteers for various functions. Duties and Responsibilities The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this job. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary. Essential Functions: Treat all animals humanely, with compassion and concern, both on and off the job and transmit these values to others Clearly explain animal services to the public and rescue groups. Safely and confidently handle animals of all sizes and temperaments in a humane manner. Use computer programs to track history and outcomes while utilizing the existing database. Work independently, be self-motivated and have ability to multi-task while following direction. Demonstrate working in professional manner with others in a fast pace, complex and changing environment. Apply sound independent judgment in a variety of situations in accordance with established policies and procedures. Serves as point of contact for rescue organizations, volunteers and events working with the shelter. Additional Duties : Showcases and promotes animals using social media, videos and photographs, while networking and relationship building with animal rescue groups. Performs intake activities including inputting animal data into the department records system, performing vaccinations, conducting preliminary health examinations and animal assessments. Interacts with the public during adoption events, out-processing of fostered, adopted or recovered animals. Completes clerical duties by assisting customers and answering questions; maintaining records; entering data into the computer; ensuring forms and documents are completed and accurate; Coordinates with other departments on outreach/campaign development; coordination with sites for outreach campaigns; completing research as needed; processing various forms and documents; collecting and posting payments; preparing various reports; and handling cash or adoption paperwork as requested and approved by management. Develops and implements animal marketing strategies to increase adoption rates and educational programs relating to animal welfare. Make contacts, develop relationships and serve as the primary point of contact for animal rescue groups and organizations, in order to effectively increase the animal live release rate through the transferring of animals to these groups. Manages, monitors, and promotes an effective animal fostering program with outside groups. Conducts initial and annual inspections and background checks as needed to rescue and foster homes that work with agency. Participates regularly in or plans, schedules, set up and assists with animal adoption outreach events that frequently occur on weekends; coordinates spay/neutering of animals in anticipation of outreach activities. Participates with the Veterinarian Technician, organizes for or transports animals to groomers, veterinarians, adoption outreaches or other locations as needed. Maintains records of rescued animals and communications made in attempt to get an animal placed. Stays current with available shelter animals to assess for rescue, and able to follow through with policy and procedures to partner with groups.
