JOB DESCRIPTION Summary/Objective The Electronic Systems Technician is responsible for the overall installation, repair, record keeping, preventative maintenance, testing and troubleshooting of Electronic Systems and their associated components. This position manages equipment used in fare collection, counting and reporting systems (including fare boxes, vaults, counting machines, electronic Aeyes manual counters, transfer cutters, etc.), public information displays and/or announcement systems (including scrolling signs, kiosks, public address systems, television monitors and destination signs), building and vehicle communication and security systems (including radios, MDTs, cameras, video and digital recorders, fire and entry alarms, door lock systems, etc.), fuel dispensing, monitoring, and reporting systems (such as Fleetwatch remote island computers), and the Advanced Operating System (including individual components and all networked equipment). The Electronics Systems Technician has responsibility for the coordination of instruction and training to Management Personnel, Motor Coach Operators and Fleet Services Employees in the proper usage and care of Electronic Systems as required. Accountabilities and Essential Functions : Repair, test, install and remove Electronic Systems or their components to ensure proper functioning and/or interfacing of all system elements: Coordinate and perform the initial installation of Electronic Systems components on newly purchased vehicles and monitor the installation and the systems for quality and performance. Regularly review vehicle condition cards and interface with pertinent personnel to determine the nature and extent of Electronic Systems problems. Coordinates with Bus Operations and Fleet Services Departments to schedule vehicles for Electronic Systems repairs, maintenance, upgrades, or installations. Perform periodic checks for quality control to ensure all Electronic Systems operate properly. Troubleshoot for problems within Electronic Systems components and make necessary repairs. Calibrate odometers as needed to maximize the efficient operation of Electronic Systems dependent upon vehicle locations. Supervise all repairs, upgrades, or replacement services performed for AAATA on Electronic Systems by sub-contractors: Approve the quality of service provided by subcontractors and sign off for payment. Work with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors to document and identify systems failures and aggressively pursue warranty adjustments. Coordinate troubleshooting findings, repair information, and other pertinent knowledge gained using equipment and systems with original equipment manufacturers to assist in general upgrading of future Electronic Systems. Coordinate the purchase, storage, retrieval, and use of Electronic Systems parts and components with appropriate inventory personnel and assist in Electronic Systems-related inventories and records management: Create, design, and modify forms (as needed) for use by the Fleet Services Department. Maintain detailed records of work performed on Electronic Systems and their components (including, but not limited to, detailed time sheets, duties listings, MIS entries, inventory usage, vehicles involved, and all subcontracted service/repair work). Perform repair, maintenance, testing, installation, and removal activities to ensure functional operation of all stationary support equipment associated with vehicle Electronic Systems: Coordinate security and camera system maintenance. Program destination signs for route changes or new route additions. Repair, install, and update transfer cutters on fleet vehicles. Maintain advanced, up to date technical knowledge of electronic principles to stay abreast of continuously changing Electronic Systems technology and developments: Attend technical training conferences and/or participate in training programs offered related to the profession. Work with police, fire, and other emergency agencies to relay pertinent information regarding Electronic Systems. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Minimum of 8 or more years of progressive experience in mechanical and electronic/electrical repair and maintenance, including bus fleet operations or similar industry experience. Associate's degree in Electronics or in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Bachelor's degree in electronics or in a related field preferred. Valid Michigan Commercial Driver's License preferred. Ability to read and interpret detailed schematics, diagrams, manuals, and instruments. Ability to memorize and retain detail. Ability to work under frequent periods of stress. Ability to work on multiple, concurrent projects with frequent interruptions. Analytical, problem-solving ability. Ability to accurately identify malfunctions. Skills necessary to place equipment in operating order on a timely basis. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, with communication skills necessary to train other personnel and interact with customers, vendors, and other stakeholders. Perform without supervision. Perform as an effective team player.
