A Day in the Life of a Traffic Engineer You are at the forefront of brainstorming creative solutions for challenging projects. You work on an interdisciplinary team to deliver multimodal transportation infrastructure in a wide range of contexts from roadway reconstructions and streetscapes in highly urban settings to signature trail projects in suburban and rural areas that highlight and enhance the natural environment. You'll work on safety plans, road diet feasibility analysis, multimodal traffic studies for new development, sign and marketing plans, maintenance of traffic plans, roundabout studies, trail/roadway intersection studies and design Safe Routes to Schools. You will share your knowledge with staff and clients, to develop feasibility studies, concept plans, and construction documents, as well mentor your colleagues to ensure that our projects are consistently of the highest quality. You will have the opportunity to work alongside transportation industry leaders that focus on multimodal safety and transportation equity research and data analysis. Qualifications of a Traffic Engineer : Bachelor's or Master's degree in civil/transportation engineering Engineering in Training (EIT) Certification is a plus 3+ years of traffic engineering experience Proficiency in Synchro Experience developing sign and marking plans for intersections with a team Experience with or interest in traffic signal design and operations Understanding of basic geometric design principles of roadways and industry roadway design standards Strong understanding of MUTCD standards at the state and Federal level Strong writing skills and experience writing a technical memorandum and/or basis of design documentation Experience with Boston local jurisdictions and/or MassDOT on projects is a plus You'll be great here if: You enjoy using data-driven, multimodal approaches to create safe, equitable, and livable communities You enjoy participating in multi-disciplinary teams You are passionate about sustainability and the opportunity to work on challenging multimodal projects that make communities more livable You have strong communication skills, whether written, verbal, or graphically You can build relationships, bring enthusiasm to exciting projects, and are detail oriented with strong problem-solving skills Work Schedule for a Traffic Engineer This full-time position typically works a flexible full-time schedule of 40 hours a week. We also provide employees with the flexibility and necessary equipment to work from home. Our Northeast regional office is located in downtown Boston within a short walk to all of the major rapid transit lines and close to both North Station and South Station commuter rail lines. We are open to the successful applicant for this position being based anywhere within the region, understanding there will be occasions when being physically present in our Boston office will be expected as mutually agreed upon during the job application/interview/offer process.
