POSITION PURPOSEUnder general supervision, participates in all maintenance projects on the Rio Grande Trail (Trail) and RFTA Railroad Corridor (Corridor). Organizes daily work schedules as directed by Trails and Corridor Manager (Manager) and Crew Leader.ESSENTIAL DUTIES1.Performs a variety of property and trail maintenance tasks to keep the Corridor and Trail in a safe manner for all members of the public. Tasks may include but aren't limited to sweeping, debris blowing, mowing Trail shoulders, pruning trees/shrubs, snow plowing, grooming, trash removal, fence maintenance, restroom sanitization, sign maintenance, trailhead upkeep, asphalt repair, and irrigation work2.Responsible for land management tasks in the Corridor; related tasks include noxious weed control, vegetation management, mowing, tree work, intersection sight line clearing, and implementing revegetation/restoration work3.Performs regular Trail tours to monitor conditions4.Follows best practices and strictly complies to RFTA policies to safely operate a variety of hand and power tools, motorized vehicles, and light equipment as required with property, trail, and land management5.Reads, comprehends, and follows instructions as described in equipment and chemical manuals, employee safety manuals, and emergency procedure manuals 6.Responsible for keeping equipment and tools in good working order7.Participates in Trail project implementation8.Participates in demolition and construction activities that involve carpentry, painting, asphalt patching, fencing, trail construction, etc.9.Maintains regular and reliable attendance10.Supports the relationship between RFTA, the general public, and neighbors by demonstrating a courteous and cooperative behaviorOTHER DUTIESExpected to keep the Carbondale Maintenance Facility (CMF) shop and grounds orderly and organizedCompletes other duties as assigned.JOB SPECIFICATIONSSAFETYMust understand and adhere to departmental, organizational, and industry safety standards and practices. Operates vehicles and equipment according to State and Federal traffic laws. Proactively maintains a safe working environment with regard to all job duties. Routinely attends and participates in safety training, meetings, and inspections. Bring all safety issues and concerns to supervisors and to the Safety and Training Manager. Must wear all Personal Protective Equipment when needed.Safety is the top priority at RFTAKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESAdheres to and actively works towards personal, department, and organizational goals and performance standardsSolid understanding of the Trail and Corridor PropertyKnowledge of trail constructionSolid computer skills and data entry abilityAbility to work harmoniously with others and abide by department code of conductSolid understanding of safe material handling, routine maintenance working practices, and basic construction methodsAbility to safely operate, maintain, and clean equipmentExpert ability to physically perform required dutiesSolid ability to organize and implement projects independentlyAbility to identify plant species, especially noxious weedsQUALIFICATIONSEducationHigh school diploma or equivalent knowledge required to successfully perform the job duties, including ability to understand, speak, read, and write English.Certifications and LicensesMust possess and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's LicenseFirst Responder Certification (holds or willing to obtain)CPR Certification (holds or willing to obtain)Spraying Applicator's License (holds or willing to obtain)ExperienceExperience in at least two (2) of the following fields are beneficial: landscaping, weed control, property management, and road or trail construction. Position also requires experience using light equipment associated with trail maintenance. ON-THE-JOB TRAININGA minimum of six (6) months but less than one (1) year of on-the-job training is normally required to perform the job effectively.EQUIPMENT UTILIZEDHand and power tools, chainsaws, motorized vehicles, trailers, and light equipment are utilized.SOFTWARE UTILIZEDSolid ability to use Microsoft Office products such as Outlook, Word and Excel. Ability to learn GIS and GPS software. Ability to navigate and enter data into Enterprise Asset Management (EAM).SCOPE OF AUTHORITYUnder general supervision from Manager and Crew Leader, participates in all maintenance and improvement projects in the Corridor and on the Trail. Daily and weekly priorities are established by Manager and Crew Leader; however, the Trail Technician is expected to evaluate and respond to new situations which require immediate attention. Responsible to report any safety, Trail, Corridor, office, or shop issues to Manager.FINANCIAL AUTHORITYResponsible for following company policies and procedures to make small purchases using a company purchasing card.COMMUNICATIONInternalDaily interaction and communication with the Manager and Crew Leader by email, telephone and in person to receive directions and provide work/project status updates. Contact as needed with other RFTA employees by email, telephone and in person to receive and provide information.ExternalDaily contact with the public to provide assistance and information regarding trail conditions, rules, etc. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITYMay provide general work direction to volunteers.WORKING CONDITIONSPosition requires strenuous physical work. Heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects up to 100 pounds occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently. Works in a typical industrial environment. Encounters exposure to moving equipment and vehicles, and related fumes and chemicals. Works in all weather conditions, at varied shifts, and on the roadways. Comes in contact with bodily fluids on a regular basis. Works on a regular basis with hazardous and toxic materials while strictly adhering to all safety rules and regulations pertaining to their use, storage, and proper disposal. Personal protective equipment is provided and must be worn when appropriate. Ninety percent (90%) of time is spent working outside, throughout the Rio Grande Corridor. Job Posted by ApplicantPro
