Description:

SGI Global is seeking a Financial Litigation Unit (FLU) Legal Assistant to support the United States Attorney's Office (USAO), Oklahoma. The Legal Assistant will coordinate with the FLU Coordinator and Asset Investigator to prepare, monitor and assist the FLU attorneys and staff with this pre-judgment coordination. *Position is contingent upon award* Job Duties Based on the nature of the legal issue or case, prepares a variety of substantive legal documents, including subpoenas, notices of deposition, interrogatories, document requests, garnishments, and applications for writ of execution. These documents are drafted for review and approval of Assistant U.S. Attorneys prior to issue. Upon approval, processes documents and performs necessary follow-up. Reviews and maintains inventory of documents and other materials produced pursuant to subpoena or other discovery requests. Conducts interviews or review depositions of debtors and witnesses to assist Assistant U.S. Attorneys in conducting financial litigation and collection; research, analyze and summarize relevant legal precedents for applicability to assigned cases. Use a variety of automated research tools as well as public information databases and other automated resources to research the financial background of a debtor and the case. Prepares and maintains a variety of discovery-related documents, e.g. discovery letters, production logs, privilege logs, deposition lists and digests, by applying a thorough knowledge of the Federal Rules of Evidence and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and application of practical litigative experience. Provides litigative case management and organizes cases by preparing and organizing discovery and exhibits. Notes deficiencies in case materials, g ., missing documents, conflicting statements, and request further investigation by personnel to correct deficiencies, or personally conducts limited investigations. Maintains regular contact with the applicable federal agencies to ensure compliance with department-wide directives regarding financial litigation. Monitors the progress of pending cases and initiates action to ensure that legal pleadings, forms, reports, correspondence, and other documents are prepared and submitted within established deadlines. Keeps appropriate staff members informed about the status of cases. Compiles, organizes, and indexes various discovery and evidence exhibits, and witness testimony. Works closely with FLU attorneys to ensure material is efficiently arranged. Performs a variety of administrative duties in support of the Unit. Support assignments of this nature involve administrative support not of a strictly legal nature, but which typically involves automation support or other administrative subject-matter areas. Automation support may include one or more of the following: Using one or more types of personal computer-based software, i.e. , word processing, spreadsheet, or database management, develops methods for automating reports, statistical data, text, and graphics. Identifies user requirements, selects appropriate software, and establishes detailed functional procedures needed to enter and to retrieve data for other application users. Using established databases, performs data searches, report design, and other data retrieval assignments. Reports may be of a recurring nature or of a special, one-time nature based on user information requirements. Limited travel and training when necessary. Qualifications: At least two years of litigation paralegal experience required; civil practice, including discovery support or financial collection experience is very helpful.
