Position Title: Refugee Youth VISTA Full or part -time status : Full -t ime Department: Migration and Refugee Services Reports to : Refugee Youth Services Supervisor Hiring Range: While this position does come with a living allowance through AmeriCorps VISTA, its compensation is not the same as a typical job. Primary Function of Position Work with the Refugee Youth Services Supervisor, case managers, and other CCS staff to promote the importance of education, and to ensure all refugee youth resettled with Catholic Community Services of Utah (CCS) graduate from high school/enroll in higher education. Major Position Responsibilities Develop a comprehensive outreach strategy for staff to educate refugee families about the importance of early childhood education. Track and compile data to gauge the effectiveness of the outreach strategy. Communicate the benefits of high-quality early learning programs to refugee families and enroll refugee children in high-quality preschool programs. Share information with the CCS Early Childhood Navigator about early childhood education in a culturally relevant and appropriate way. Build up our Youth Services program in our target areas of education, evaluation and assessment, early learning outreach, and secondary education resource development. Coordinate workshops and outreach events for families who are interested in learning more about early childhood education. Create partnerships with existing organizations and youth programs to provide additional resources to our youth and parents. Build on our youth mentor training, develop parent engagement strategies, and compile local resource guides to increase positive outcomes and success for our youth mentoring matches. This position does not involve tasks working directly with clients (youth and families). Work Environment - inside/outside, office, warehouse, noise, temperature, etc. Work will be performed primarily inside but will occur in places of employment, educational institutes, and other locations as needed in addition to being performed in an office. Physical Demands including bending, sitting, lifting and driving Work requires the ability to sit and stand for long periods , to walk moderate distances, to drive, Driving is required in this position. Skills, Knowledge, and/or Abilities Comfortable and confident when teaching groups of youth and their parents, as well as v olunteers that work with Youth. Proficiency in computer skills to maintain case files, complete documentation, scheduling and e-mail in Microsoft Office 365 and Excel Excellent interpersonal communication. Ability to relate to individuals of diverse ages and backgrounds. Familiar with and supportive of the mission of Catholic Community Services of Utah and the vision of the Catholic Church articulated by the diocesan bishop. Education, Training and/or Experience Experience in training development. Experience working with youth in a supportive capacity. AS d egree in Social Work or a related field from an accredited institution is preferred . Experience searching for grants and resources preferred . Experience with multicultural and refugee communities preferred. Background S creen / BCI requirement Must be able to pas s a BCI/FBI background check. Licenses, certifications and credentials Current Utah driver's license , proof of auto insurance, 21 years of age or older, a clean driving record, and ability to meet CCS vehicle safety and auto insurance requirements. Position status and expected schedule This position is full-time (40 hours per week) . The general schedule will consist of 40 hours to be worked on Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 :30 AM and 5 :00 PM. This schedule is flexible but sometimes work after hours for parent and volunteer training .
