CATHOLIC SOCIAL SERVICES POSITION DESCRIPTION Title: Housing Coordinator Title of Supervisor: Administrator Organizational Unit: Catholic Social Services/Casa del Carmen Hours: Varies with evening and weekend hours as needed Classification: Full Time Location: Migrant Welcome Center Major Responsibilities: The Housing Coordinator assists newly arrived immigrants residing at the Welcome Center to apply for, qualify for, and move in to affordable housing and also apply for and obtain eligibility for subsidized housing when available for those that qualify. The Housing Coordinator works actively to increase safe and affordable housing opportunities for immigrant populations. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Include: Respond to referrals for new clients in a timely manner, including completing a housing assessment of the client's needs and preferences. Identify and present housing options for clients that fulfill their specific location, size, and affordability requirements. Assist clients in understanding and signing the lease agreement. Assist clients, along with their support staff and family members, in completing applications and providing necessary documents to be placed on waiting lists for affordable housing rental properties. Help clients' budget and plan for move-in expenses including the security deposit and first month's rent. This may require applying for various programs that offer financial assistance for move-in expenses. Be available to respond to questions from clients and authorized service providers/family members regarding housing or move in details. Diligently maintain detailed case notes, current and accurate data about the case in the client's case file. Organize regular client community workshops. Regularly communicate with property managers/affordable housing developers in order to maintain a current and accurate list of affordable housing/rental properties which are accepting applications for a wait list. Additionally, keep current application forms and other requirements for being places on the wait list. Assist with donations and furnishing the rental property. Work with volunteers and donors in assisting in this area. Identify opportunities for housing advocacy and pursuing options for alternative housing opportunities for clients; bringing opportunities to Administration to advocate for city wide efforts. Participate in staff meetings and in-service trainings; Perform other duties as assigned REPRESENTATIVE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of and orientation of philosophy of the Agency's policies as presented in Catholic Social Services Mission Statement. Knowledge of and commitment to Catholic values and teachings as you are representing the agency when with clients and other agencies and institutions Knowledge of affordable housing/housing issues facing current resident in and around the City of Philadelphia. Knowledge of community resources, social services, and benefits administered by the county of Philadelphia. Ability to maintain a non-judgment, supportive communication style during challenging discussions regarding housing options. Exceptional interpersonal personal skills that permit candidates to work with a diverse community and build collaborative relationships with a variety of community stakeholders. Ability to responsibly prioritize competing tasks but also follow through in a timely manner. Capacity to follow meticulous record-keeping/reporting protocols. Ability/Desire to work cooperatively as a team with other staff, the client, and client's circle of support. Availability to occasionally work evenings and/or weekend hours. BSW required [Preferably in Social Work or related field] At least two years of relevant experience in providing services to low-income immigrant families. This requirement may be substituted by additional relevant education Possess a valid PA State Driver's License and provide proof of automobile insurance/clean driving record. Fully Bi-lingual (written and oral) in English and Spanish. Bi-Cultural understanding of Spanish speaking communities in and around Philadelphia. Job Posted by ApplicantPro
