We have a rigorous training program that will prepare you as a Family Advocate with the Family Education and Resource Center (FERC), a program of the Mental Health Association of Alameda County (MHAAC). The Mental Health Association of Alameda County (MHAAC) is a well-established non-profit organization with long term staff that assists and advocates for people with mental illness and their family members through programs including the Family Education Resource Center, the Family Partnership Program, and the Patients' Rights Advocacy Program. Together, these programs assist thousands of people with serious mental illness and their family members every year. We envision a world without stigma where people with mental health challenges and their family members are free to live their best lives. MHAAC's current budget is around $5 million. We Offer: Competitive salary Eligible for first pay increase after successful completion of 6-month introductory period Some position eligible for Bilingual Pay Differential for fluency in an Alameda County threshold language 100% paid medical and dental coverage for the employee Employee Assistance Program (EAP) that includes free unlimited Tele-Doc and Psychotherapy services Generous time-off benefits: 14 paid holidays, including the week between Christmas and New Years Day Vacation leave 2 weeks per year, increases to 4 weeks by year 4 of employment Paid lunch break Mileage reimbursement for work related travel Paid volunteer time-off Tuition reimbursement On the job training The Family Education and Resource Center (FERC) is a family-centered program that provides free education, advocacy, and support to family caregivers of a loved one living with mental health conditions in all regions of Alameda County. What makes FERC unique is that all FERC staff members care for a loved one with a mental health condition or Serious Mental Illness (SMI). FERC programmatic components include: a warm-line; education, training, and support for family/ caregivers; a resource center; assistance with AB 1424 Historical Information forms; support for the development of family leadership; and collaboration with the African American Family Outreach Program (AAFOP) and collaboration with other MHSA funded programs. The FERC Family Advocate Lead II reports to the Assistant Director and is responsible for assisting in the training of all newly hired Family Advocates at all FERC locations and is responsible for supporting the activities of Family Advocates in their duties. The Lead Advocate provides a full range of information, support, encouragement, advocacy, and referrals to appropriate community resources, and related services in order to support Family Advocates and assist Family Members in coping effectively with immediate and/or long term situations. The Lead II supports Family Advocate staff in ongoing professional development and ongoing practice development. In addition, the Lead Advocate provides support to the Warm Line function and will support Family Advocates in the absence of the Program Supervisor and/or Assistant Director. Lead II positions at the Mental Health Association of Alameda County are responsible for coordinating the activities of more than four staff. Typical Duties and Responsibilities: Facilitate, attend, and/or support family caregiver support groups and other peer to peer support efforts Provide in-person, phone and virtual assistance to Family Members as they navigate the Alameda County Behavioral Heath Care system Collaborates with FERC's Community Engagement Specialist on community outreach events (e.g. tabling at festivals/fairs, presentations to community organizations, etc.) Design and conduct mental health presentations to schools, other community-based organizations, and the general public Support Family Advocates in the preparation and delivery of mental heath information to the general public Serve as liaison to other key community groups, e.g. NAMI affiliates Document and prepare reports on key components of calls and activities as required by Alameda County Required Qualifications: Lived experience as the primary caregiver and/or direct family member of a loved one diagnosed with a serious mental health condition High School Diploma/GED Excellent verbal and written communication skills Demonstrated excellence in team work Proficiency in Microsoft Office software: Outlook (email) and Word (documents) Must successfully pass a fingerprint background check by CADOJ and the FBI Must be able to provide proof of full Covid-19 vaccination plus evidence of the Omicron specific booster shot Have a valid CA Drivers License, daily access to a working motor vehicle, maintain legally required vehicle liability insurance, and have an acceptable motor vehicle report as determined by MHAAC's insurance broker Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree Experience navigating the Alameda County Behavioral Health care system Experience working with underserved communities Experience delivering services using video-based platforms such as Zoom Bilingual in one of Alameda County's threshold languages: Cantonese, Farsi, Mandarin, Spanish, Tagalog, Vietnamese Hours of Work: Full-time (40 hrs per week), Mon-Fri 9 am - 5 pm, occasional evening/weekend hours Work Location: 39155 Liberty St., Fremont, CA 94538 Covid Considerations: All staff are required to show proof of full Covid-19 vaccination and the Omicron specific booster shot. Air purifiers in the office. We are currently operating on a hybrid work schedule: 2 days in the office ad 3 days work from home. Salary: $26.50 per hour (approximately $55,120 annually).
