SUMMARY As a Residential Youth Direct Care Staff, you will be primarily responsible for providing care and supervising residents in the program. This program is in a home setting and serves up to six youth at time. The home is staffed with a minimum of two staff at all times. Youth served have experienced trauma and will display trauma reactions through their behavior. This staff member will serve as a resident advocate for assigned residents and ensure that residents' developmental needs are met within a safe and supportive environment that enhances their ability to meet their treatment goals. As a Residential Youth Direct Care Staff, you will oversee the residents' safety, as well as the home community at large, while developing therapeutic, professional relationships with residents and offering insight into their functioning and participation in program. This position is expected to function effectively with moderate supervision while following the guidelines given on procedures, along with agency, federal, and state regulatory requirements. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Obtain and retain an adequate amount of knowledge pertaining to resident's treatment program, and successfully implement components on the job. Actively participate in assigned activities and encourage positive interaction and growth amongst the residents by teaching, supporting, and reinforcing skills through role modeling, sharing information, demonstrating, redirecting/directing, prompting, and behavior management. Successfully follow the treatment guidelines by intervening in a trauma-sensitive, caring and consistent manner, when the need arises. Oversee the residents' daily routines to include but not limited to mealtime, study time, outings, bedtime, assigned jobs, and other residential activities to ensure basic needs are met including personal hygiene, nutrition, health, sleep routine, and safety. Completes household tasks which maintain a safe, orderly, and clean environment for youth and staff. Serve as a residential advocate by presenting social history at staff meeting following admission as well as reviewing the legal history, family history, psychological history, school history, and identify and issues or behaviors that would warrant attention in the treatment. Provide residential advocacy at staff meetings by updating the team on information related to incident reports, interaction with peers and staff, and recommendation for new or revised treatment goals. Attend bi-monthly meetings with supervisor to discuss job performance, and/or issues or concerns. May provide transportation to residents. Provides scheduled on-call staff shift coverage for times when a scheduled staff is absent. Availability to attend trainings as assigned. Perform other job-related duties as assigned. This position will be knowledgeable about and actively support 1) culturally competent, recovery-based practices; 2) person-centered planning as a shared decision-making process with the individual, who defines his/her own life goals and is assisted in developing a unique path toward those goals; and 3) a trauma informed culture to aid individuals in their recovery process. Ability to understand, demonstrate and apply the Agency's workplace values: Respect Integrity Service Empowerment SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None QUALIFICATIONS Must be at least 18 years of age Valid, unrestricted driver's license Maintain a reliable automobile with adequate insurance coverage to meet agency requirements Prior experience working with youth in a residential setting is preferred but not mandatory Excellent verbal and written communication skills Must have an ability to provide excellent and compassionate customer service Ability to work independently and exercise a high level of confidentiality Must be reliable with time sensitive deadlines and tasks Have the ability to serve as positive role model Demonstrated ability to nurture and provide structure, support, and respect to others Must be able to pass required medical examinations and have the physical ability to fulfill the essential job functions, including physical restraints of a resident Successfully pass an annual TB test and document preference to receive or decline Hepatitis immunization Must be able to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team Computer and typing skills sufficient to perform essential job functions Pass a criminal history screen, including state and local child protection agency registries Must be reliable and dependable to work scheduled shifts, arrive on time, and work entire shift, which will include occasional weekends and holidays. May be assigned overtime. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High School Diploma or equivalent Prior experience working with youth in a residential setting is preferred Familiarity with behavioral health services is desired Prior training in trauma-informed care is desired Education, training, and/or knowledge of the impact of trauma on individuals, children, and families, is desired Trained or willingness to be trained in First Aid, CPR, and AED LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and utilize documents, such as procedure manuals, and to write routine reports and correspondence is required. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to staff, service recipients, and clients is required. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, AND INSURANCE Trained or willingness to be trained in Mandt, First Aid, CPR, and AED Crisis intervention training OR the ability to become certified/trained as assigned Acceptable driving record in compliance with agency policy Applicants must have a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record in accordance with agency policies. Must possess use of a personal vehicle for transportation with valid automobile insurance which designates the employee as an insured driver in accordance with agency policy. May utilize Agency vehicles if available. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Ability to provide a clear TB test is required for this role Pre-employment physical is required for this role Schedule: Program operates on a 24/7 schedule. Weekends and holidays will be required. Shifts may include 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., 3 to 11 p.m. with Part-time and Full-time positions may be available. (Part-Time Overnight and Full-time Overnight positions are also available with a shift of 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.) Benefits: Dental Insurance, Vision Insurance, Paid Time Office, 401(k) retirement plan, 9 paid holidays + 1 floating holiday, Short Term Disability Insurance, Employee Assistance Program, and other benefits.
