Environmental Intern - Kenaitze Tribal Member Only Revision Date: 3/23/2022 Department: Tribal Programs Employment Status: Seasonal Program: Environmental FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Reports To: Environmental Program Manager Schedule: Up to 20 Hours Supervises: N/A Preference: TERO Ordinance 2017-01, P.L. 93-638 Job Summary Under the direction and guidance of the Environmental Program Manager, the Environmental Intern provides support to Kenaitze Indian Tribe's IGAP Department. Interns will work with a priority on projects for water pollution in the Kenai River watershed, included but not limited to, human and animal health issues such as trash/litter found on beaches, effects on subsistence harvests, and preserving traditional ecological knowledge and values. Internship Program placements offer an educational experience, opportunities to build on job skills, career readiness, and gain exposure to the Kenaitze Indian Tribe's services and operational processes. Essential Functions Works with team members to assist in day-to-day activities of the department Keep the environment i.e. freshwater, marine free of debris Monitors water quality Participates in weekly meetings and plans tasks for the week Models appropriate behavior and positively represent the Tribe and its programs Notifies supervisor in weekly reports of environmental impacts in the Kenaitze Service Area Learns about invasive species identification and eradication Assists in the traditional and ecological knowledge aspects of the Tribal community Participates in assessments and cleanup of Tribal lands and other areas Assists Cooper Landing Russian River Fish Technicians with trail maintenance and other duties as assigned Ability to work 70% fieldwork and 30% office Learns about natural resource and conservation from elders Ability to work flexible hours, not to exceed 20 hours per week It is the intent of this job description to highlight the essential functions of the position; however, it is not an all-inclusive list. If the use of arm and/or leg control requires exertion of forces greater than that of sedentary work and if the worker sits most of the time, the job is considered light work. Preferred Between the ages of 16-24 Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, or training will be provided Understanding of, and appreciation for the Kenaitze Dena'ina culture, history and traditions Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities Special Skills Good oral and written communication skills Demonstrate ability to manage multiple goals, projects and deadlines Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively Conducts business in a service-oriented manner that is attentive, pleasant, respectful and kind when dealing with un'ina, visitors, co-workers and others Job Posted by ApplicantPro
