Job Title: Clinical Caregiver Advisor (MSW) Business Unit: Family Caregiver Support Department: Family Caregiver Support Reports to: Senior Program Manager FLSA: Non-Exempt Classification: Regular Full-time (35 hours) Grade: 8 (non-union position) Salary Range : $ (commensurate with experience) SUMMARY OVERVIEW Support caregivers in the independent care of elder family members and other loved ones through assessing and providing guidance through consultation, individual short term counseling and group support. Provide education and guidance to Family Caregiver Advisors and other program staff working with caregivers and their care recipients. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Essential Job functions: Duties _______ through _______are designated as ADA Essential Functions and must be performed in this job. All other job duties are secondary functions. [TBD] Develop and nurture mutual relationships and confidence with caregivers. Work together with caregivers to develop effective coping and self-care techniques that will yield good results. Refer caregivers to mental health specialist for long-term counseling. Provide clinical support and education to other BSHC program staff working with caregivers. Conduct caregiver needs assessment through home visit and/or in-depth phone interviews. Develop supportive relationships with caregivers in order to deliver short-term advising services. Lead Evidence-Based Workshops in Savvy Caregiver and any other Caregiver related workshops as needed. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of resources, services and programs for caregivers and the elderly. Keep abreast of eligibility requirements for public services needed by caregivers and the elderly. Provide in-depth information to clients to address a range of caregiver needs. Consult and collaborate with all agency staff Departments in an effort to enhance services available to caregivers. Maintain a thorough knowledge of resources in the Greater Boston area and make referrals as needed. Foster collaborative relationships with other community service agencies for referrals and future joint projects. Recruit caregivers for caregiver support groups and public speaking opportunities. Provide and/or participate in educational events/programs for caregivers that are offered through the Alliance and/or other organizations. Outreach and market the program to potential caregivers and other agencies in the region. Complete required reporting including monthly and other required reports in a timely manner. Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic and paper case files on caregivers. Attend staff meetings. Maintain familiarity with agency, program, and funder's policies and procedures. Perform all other duties as assigned, including working occasional evenings and weekends. COMPETENCIES Compassion, interpersonal skills, good judgment and decision making, social perceptiveness Ability to assess care-giving situations and provide individualized advice and referrals Knowledge of the aging process and the caregiver Experience working with the elderly and/or experience working in a community service setting Strong organizational, time-management and priority-setting skills Ability to work with clients in urban, multi-ethnic and multi-racial communities Excellent communication and presentation skills Flexibility to accept changing priorities Basic knowledge of community resources and programs Ability to engage and empower caregivers Ability to work independently and as part of a team Knowledge of basiccomputer applications,word processing and email programs SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. WORK ENVIRONMENT This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, copiers, filing cabinets. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must be able to carry 10 to 15 lbs. The employee is regularly required to talk and hear The employee is frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Social Work License supervision offered. TRAVEL This position required up to 25% travel. Must be able to travel to the community to perform visits at caregivers' homes and other venues both within Suffolk County (may have limited accessibility), and travel under all weather conditions. REQUIRED/PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Masters in Social Work or related field required. LCSW or LICSW preferred. Minimum of four (4) years of experience working in human services, in case management and/or with elderly is preferred. Any qualification may be waived if it is in the best interest of BSHC and the City of Boston's Caregiver Program to do so. ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS None required for this position.
