Responsibilities and Duties Supervision and Management Supervises and trains retail staff and volunteers. Performs employee hiring, discharging, and evaluating tasks. Develops strategies for monitoring shrinkage and holding volunteers and staff accountable to following procedures when handling/transporting goods they plan to purchase. Oversees opening and closing of the retail stores and online operations and ensures proper procedures are followed. Utilizes communication and interpersonal skills to successfully establish and maintain professional relationships and work effectively with all levels of management. Attends management meetings and trainings as required. Ensures accurate and up-to-date tracking of revenue. Covers positions to provide staff breaks throughout the day. Responds to phone, email and text messages. Ensures staff are checking their emails daily, clocking in and clocking out, and completing their required trainings. Ensures staff and volunteers follow all risk management guidelines (examples include team lifting, keeping walkways free of goods, etc.) to reduce risks to themselves and hazards for shoppers. Cleaning and Maintenance Ensures retail stores and staff areas are maintained in a clean, orderly, and visually attractive manner. Ensures kitchen, bathrooms, and sales floors are cleaned daily/weekly. Ensures the boutique grass and lawn is maintained. Volunteers and Interns Maintains and grows volunteer base through outreach to individuals, community-based organizations and groups, colleges/universities and corporations. Manages orientation process for new volunteers and sets them up in volunteer software. Coordinates volunteer groups, court-mandated community service workers, and worker's comp volunteers and tracks their required hours for reporting purposes. Plans and executes volunteer appreciation initiatives. Develops and manages volunteer policies, procedures, and standards of volunteer service. Sales Builds relationships with customers and recommends, selects and helps locate or obtain merchandise based on customer needs and desires. Has current knowledge of what is "fashionable" and/or "trendy." Each day, selects high-end merchandise from the donation center to send to the boutique and makes sure new merchandise is put onto the sales floor. Ensures the stores have adequate and efficient monetary controls. Reconciles daily cash receipts and deposits with store sales. Facilitates online and vendor sales of high-end merchandise. Prepares thrift store, boutique and warehouse budget and monitors monthly for variances. Stays current on laws and regulations which govern resale shops and ensures the Company's compliance with these regulations. Ensures the register till has adequate change for the day. Establishes pricing guide and plan for periodic sales. External Vendors Solicits community distributors and vendors to donate product to the stores and warehouse. External Shoppers and Internal Shoppers (Survivors and Staff) Ensures the shopping process is welcoming and empowering and steps in, as needed, when a shopper raises a concern with sales staff or becomes unruly. Ensures retail staff know both the Staff Discount card process and the Survivor Voucher process and understand the limited degree of flexibility within the Voucher. Communications/Marketing/Merchandising Creates attractive displays. Produces internal and external communication materials for the stores including social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, electronic communications and others). Manages search engine websites (Google, Yahoo, Yelp and others) to ensure timely responses and accurate information. Truck Services Ability and willingness to drive the donation box truck as needed to meet Company needs. Other Duties Requires working a Tuesday through Saturday schedule. Hours and days may adjust based on store needs. Records and reconciles daily sales/transactions that occur at the thrift store, boutique and online. Records, maintains and certifies all community volunteer hours and paperwork. As needed, restocks collateral materials promoting the Company. Performs other duties as assigned. Supervision Responsibility Directly supervises Cashiers and volunteers. Requirements High School Diploma or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate. Previous work-related skills, knowledge and/or experience in sales, inventory or relationship management. Previous experience managing people is strongly preferred. Excellent organizational and leadership skills, outstanding communication and interpersonal skills; and high ethical standards are required. Valid Florida driver's license, acceptable Motor Vehicle Report, active automobile insurance and dependable transportation is required. Requires 24-hour DCF Core Competency training and additional 6 hours to qualify for Privilege status (30 hours total). Requires ongoing 16 hours of DCF approved training annually after the first year. Must pass a Level II Background Screening and a drug screening. Specialized Equipment or Machines Proficiency Cash register skills required. Computer skills and working knowledge of MS Office, Outlook and spreadsheet software. Must be able to drive a box truck that is approximately 16' long. Must know how to safely use a pallet jack, warehouse ladder, dollies and hand carts to transport donated goods within the warehouse and store and to and from the box truck. Physical Demands and Work Environment Employee will stand for an extended amount of time including, but not limited to, six to eight hour time periods. Employee will often be required to lift up to fifty pounds. 75? Employee must be able to walk, stand, use hands, stoop/kneel and reach in the course of their job duties. Employee must be able to talk and hear in an environment with moderate noise level. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Position requires that the employee be able to travel between the organization's sites and to off-site meetings. The work environments of this position are twofold: one is primarily that of a second-hand retail sales floor and restricted areas with air conditioning, as well as a portion of the sales floor and a warehouse without air conditioning; the second is that of a second-hand retail sales building with air conditioning. The Retail Manager must be able to perform the essential functions of this position in both air conditioned and un-air conditioned spaces each day.
