The AV Jr. Technician is a full time, on-site in our Burbank, CA office that supports our client's engineers and team members with communications, coordination, and physical assistance in such areas as scheduling, task management, ticket requests, inventory management, shipping logistics, technical tasks, troubleshooting, user studies, event support, and routine maintenance of Google's proprietary audiovisual hardware. Their duties include operational checks on prototype equipment, as well as calibrating and maintaining that equipment. Furthermore, this level of support includes hardware upgrades to these prototypes, firmware upgrades, BIOS updates, OS re-imaging, and activating SW build packages using Linux commands and Bash scripts. These duties support our client's engineers' experimentation, investigation, research, and data analysis that propel the project forward. Responsibilities and Duties Note, this is not a fully comprehensive list, as there are aspects and elements of this role that can be appended or omitted at any time as we continue to work with the client on the progression of the project. Performing routine maintenance in the lab to support engineering with new designs and implementations for the project. Provide and support technical documentation packages (operations, assembly, calibration and maintenance manuals in coordination with the client) Significant travel and extended out of town stays may be required in this position. Flexibility in day to day start time for activities to accommodate project needs and coordination. Perform other activities and assume further responsibilities as projects demand and/or as directed by the immediate Manager. Setting up, testing, adjusting, and calibrating prototype equipment in preparation for use by engineers and UX researchers. Brainstorming and constructing mounting systems for video displays, cameras, lighting, loudspeakers, and lasers for testing new designs and ideas. Installing and replacing computer components for prototype PCs and lab workstations. Assistance in QA work of user experience and operational testing. Upkeep of internal tracking tools of lab equipment and inventory. Routing cables and performing cable management to keep stations tidy and electrically safe from crosstalk, ESD, and interference. Submitting tickets for bugs, documenting all relevant info and observations, and routing them to the proper stakeholders. Retrieving and preparing pallets and parcels for shipments to and from Google campuses and WFH engineers. Documenting inventory of spare prototyping materials, PC components, and lab test equipment. Identifying storage, tools, items, etc. that would improve lab efficiency and experience. Conducting general lab clean-up and organization. Being open to learning new proprietary tools, processes, experiments. Qualifications Associates degree or technical certificate preferred. Proficient with computers and standard office programs (e.g. Windows, Excel, Word). Moderate understanding of the Linux OS environment, preferably Debian or Ubuntu. Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic processes. Strong documentation skills. Highly detail oriented. CTS certification preferred.
