Overview: The United States Coast Guard (USCG) Ship Design & Systems Engineering Division (CG-459), Human Systems Integration (HSI) Division (CG-1B), and Surface Forces Logistics Center Engineering Services Division (SFLC-ESD) provides complete life cycle management of surface assets from concept development through disposal. This includes tasks relating to the acquisition of new cutters and boats, maintenance and upgrade of existing assets, management and maintenance of vessel configuration and performance characteristics, and engineering and design support services. Job Summary: Propulsion: Provide technical support and documentation design, develop, and evaluate the operation of marine vessels, ship machinery, and related equipment, to include, but not limited to: power supply and propulsion systems. Research and develop ship propulsion systems, to include, but not limited to: diesels, gas turbines, diesel-electric systems, propellers, rudders, thrusters, gears, shafts, bearings, seals, noise, vibration, and interfaces with dynamic positioning systems, and apply to applicable design and requirements. Develop system documentation and ship specifications. Auxiliary: Provide technical support and documentation design, develop, and evaluate the operation of marine vessels, ship machinery, and related equipment, to include, but not limited to: auxiliary systems, hydraulics weight handling equipment, rudders, piping, pumps, valves, and HVAC, and apply to applicable design and requirements. Develop system documentation and ship specifications. Requirements: SECRET Clearance is required. Education and Experience: BS or MS in Technical, Engineering, or Marine degree from ABET accredited institution, related to field of work. 3 to 6 or more years' progressive experience in Mechanical Engineering disciplines. Experience with Government or commercial shipbuilding programs preferred. 1+ year of experience related to federal ship or boat building acquisition programs required. Additional certifications, such as PE License, PMP, DHS Systems Engineering Certification, or DHS Program Management Certifications, preferred. Essential Duties: Propulsion Conduct analyses propulsion systems and types, lead development of technical data packages and reviews Conduct trade studies regarding ship configuration Possess familiarity with ABS, NVR, and commercial ship design rules and regulations Design, develop and evaluate operation of marine vessels, shipboard propulsion machinery, and review and develop technical data packages, provide oversight on development of machinery arrangements, conduct and oversee trade studies Apply knowledge of ABS, NVR, and commercial ship design rules and regulations Auxiliary Conduct analysis and design of auxiliary systems, lead development of technical data packages and reviews Conduct trade studies Possess familiarity with ABS, USN, and industry standards relating to shipboard auxiliary systems Design, develop and evaluate operation of marine vessels, shipboard auxiliary systems and piping, review and develop technical data packages, provide oversight on development of machinery arrangements, conduct and oversee trade studies Lead engineers in development efforts, coordinate with other functional areas to complete ship design Apply knowledge of ABS, USN, and industry standards relating to shipboard auxiliary systems Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience related to federal ship or boat building acquisition programs preferred.
