Pretreatment Technician

JOB SUMMARY The position's main focus will be on customers who use grease traps or interceptors as a part of their wastewater discharge process. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Performs skilled inspection work to ensure compliance with City Ordinances pertaining to interceptors. Completes inspection forms, enters information into a database, and maintains records for compliance and tracking purposes. Contacts facility managers or owners to ensure they are compliant with ordinances. Samples wastewater according to applicable procedures and approved methods, and schedules testing with commercial laboratories. Conducts work within confined spaces and in some instances high traffic areas. Uses a variety of safety equipment to prevent incidents. Assists the Pretreatment Coordinator with field investigations to determine the source of contaminants in the sewer system. Educates business owners and managers about best management practices for reducing grease, oil, and solids accumulation in the City sewer system. Performs other related job duties as assigned. Education and Experience: QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or equivalent. Special Requirements: Must possess a valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License. Ability to respond at any hour during an emergency when requested. Ability to lift weights of 50 pounds alone and up to 100 pounds with assistance. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of safe working conditions and procedures. Knowledge of commercial grease trap operation. Knowledge of basic plumbing. Knowledge of computer software and programs. Ability to work outside in various conditions and terrain. Ability to read blueprints and drawings. Ability to operate various types of hand tool stools. Able to climb in and out of confined areas. Ability to lift weights of 50 pounds alone and up to 100 pounds with assistance. Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, or sit for long periods of time. Ability to utilize independent judgment and decision-making abilities as necessary. Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously in a team environment, and with minimal supervision. Ability to use professional attitude, tact, and courtesy necessary to deal with internal and external customers. Ability to work as many hours as needed to get the work assigned completed. Ability to adapt to new technology, new methods, and changing conditions. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to obtain licenses/certifications to perform work assignments. Ability to respond at any hour during an emergency when requested. Ability to understand and follow the City of Conroe and Departmental policies and procedures. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The work is medium and requires the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
