Position Summary The Small Farm Specialist will assist the Innovative Small Farmers' Outreach Program (ISFOP), make farm visits, provide research, promote assistance to Urban Agriculture, and conduct workshops. Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities Conduct farm visits and provide technical support to collaborating farmers. Promote program events, write educational materials, grant proposals, and reports. Organize and conduct ISFOP workshops. Promote and provide assistance to Urban Agriculture and Community Gardens. Coordinate and supervise the activities of other Farm Outreach Workers. Promote best farming practices, food safety, sustainable agriculture, and USDA programs. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability and interest in writing grant proposals. Ability to work under adverse weather conditions. Experience working with small and urban farmers. Education and Experience Bachelor of Science in Agriculture or other closely related field is required, Master's degree preferred. Three years of farming experience required. The ability to speak, write, and understand Spanish is preferred. Physical Requirements Light sedentary office work. Prolonged periods of standing. Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
