Click on the following link to see a little of what we have to offer: https://www.canton-mi.org/DocumentCenter/View/9870/Employment-Perks-82521 JOB DESCRIPTION DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The Park Ranger is a seasonal position responsible for routine manual labor and maintenance work in a variety of parks and ground functions. EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Note: These examples are intended merely as illustrations of the various types of work performed) Responsible for enforcement of established park rules and local ordinances Responsible for greeting and assisting park patrons and guests in a pleasant, friendly, and efficient manner Ensure a pleasant and safe park environment for all park guests; responsible for the general security of assigned park including any necessary communication with local law enforcement agencies Assist with general custodial and maintenance of park buildings and facilities, including but not limited to, sweeping, trash pickup, and other general groundskeeping duties as assigned Perform manual labor, including but not limited to, mowing, snow shoveling, and salting Assist in the set‐up and take down of special events as assigned Perform other assigned duties as required ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Minimum age of 18 years old Must possess a current, valid Driver's License with a driving history that does not create liability concerns; which includes, but is not limited to, convictions for reckless driving, careless driving, suspended license, or convictions involving drinking and impaired driving Ability to clearly communicate procedures, problems, and policies with fellow employees and the public in a tactful and courteous manner. Ability to establish good working relationships with employees and the general public Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions Ability to drive a pickup truck or utility cart General knowledge of security practices ensuring park safety for all guests Skill in organizing self and others; ability to self‐start in discharging responsibilities Ability to properly and safely operate a wide variety of maintenance equipment, including but not limited to, tractors, sweepers and different types of power mowers, lawn equipment, and hand and power tools Ability to perform heavy manual labor; the ability to work in adverse environmental, extreme weather and field conditions Ability to work a wide variety of shifts including afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays This is an "At-Will" position: Work assignments and hours are scheduled based on availability, division requirements and within the confines of the budget. Seasonal employees can work for a defined period of time (typically 4-6 months) and can work up to 40 hours per week. This is an at-will position. Hours are limited and will vary based on the operational needs of the department. Employees in this position will be classified as part-time or seasonal employees. All candidates will be notified via email of the disposition of the employment application. Being hired to fill a vacant position will require reference checking, background information, working history verification, driving record verification, physical exam, drug screen, and new hire orientation.
