UNC's Department of Pharmacy is an organization of more than 500 dedicated employees with focused attention on caring for patients of the UNC Health Care system. We are culturally diverse and have a variety of backgrounds, interests, capabilities, and experience. The Department is highly interactive with the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy, located on the same Chapel Hill campus. UNC Hospitals and Clinics acts as a major clinical and administrative training site for these pharmacy students. In addition, the Department of Pharmacy has> 40 pharmacy residents in a variety of general and specialty training environments. Pediatric Pharmacy:Our mission is to provide quality, patient-centered care, in collaboration with other healthcare professionals, for all pediatric patients within the Children's Hospital by practicing evidenced-based medicine, optimizing medication use and distribution while ensuring medication safety. The Pediatric Services at UNC Hospitals and Clinics are in a period of growth. Both UNC Hospitals and the Department of Pharmacy have realized the significant potential that exists through enhancing current Clinical and Operational pharmacy services within the pediatric division. The team is seeking a highly motivated, energetic, and dynamic pharmacist that will help ensure the provision of safe and effective patient care within UNC Medical Center. This position will be responsible for the distributive and clinical needs of pediatric patients within UNC Medical Center on the evening shift. The focus of the position will be on maintaining and optimizing the day-to-day operations of the Pediatric Pharmacy. This pharmacist will also perform the clinical and dispensing services associated with the Pediatric Pharmacy patient care needs and will directly supervise pharmacy technicians in their distributional responsibilities. This position will work Mon-Fri 3p-1130p with no weekend commitment. Responsibilities: * Compounds and oversees the preparation and dispensing of medications including sterile products using standard formulas, processes and procedures as required * Monitor drug therapy to evaluate appropriateness of use including therapeutic drug monitoring * Maintain patient profiles within electronic medical record to facilitate communication * Antimicrobial management and stewardship * Ensure adherence to formulary * Ensure timely medication access for service patients; including order review and verification * Facilitate discharge and transfer of patients (ie. medication reconciliation and discharge counseling) * Adverse Drug Event and Medication Error Reporting * Code Blue participation * Respond to drug information requests Preferred Skills: Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience. Completion of an ASHP-accredited Pharmacy Practice (PGY1) Residency, Specialty (PGY2) Residency, or equivalent work experience in pediatrics is preferred. Must possess and demonstrate excellent communication skills; leadership skills; self-initiative, innovative, and collaborative skills; analytical and organizational skills. Must demonstrate behaviors consistent UNC Healthcare's Core Behaviors as a guiding principle. Academic appointment with the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy is available, commensurate with experience. Lean or Six-Sigma training/certification with demonstrated application of its principles is preferred. Licensure or license-eligible as a Pharmacist in the State of North Carolina. Other Information Other information: Education Requirements: PharmD or BS Pharmacy Degree Licensure/Certification Requirements: Active pharmacist licensure with the NC Board of Pharmacy or obtainable before initiation of employment. Recent graduates of ACPE-accredited colleges/schools of pharmacy may fill this role while pending initial pharmacist licensure, but are subject to limitations mandated by the NC Board of Pharmacy and must obtain licensure within 6 months of orientation or sooner if required for operations.
